For more than two decades, Lager's International House of Ale has been a favorite Metairie destination for pints of beer from near and far. On the Wednesday (Oct. 3), the bar located on Veterans Memorial Boulevard announced that it would close in December.

The bar shared the news in an email to regulars.

"Unfortunately, our rent, while already much higher than our competitors, has increased to a point where our business is becoming financially unviable for a locally-based business," said the emailed statement.

That’s too bad. Decent burger. Solid tap list.

I’m gonna miss going there once every 3 years.

I was telling my wife this. I asked if she remembered what it was originally and she thought it was the same as now. Anyone remember what it was? I know but let's see if anyone else does.

Sorry, about the hijack!

How the heck old are you? That damn thing has been egg roll house for 30 years. Shocking considering how horrible it is. Amazing they lasted this long. In fact last week I passed by with my dad and even mentioned to him how shocked I was egg roll house was still in existence. Was that the old Pizza Inn or am I remembering a wrong spot.

Egg roll house was a donut shop. Specialized in buttermilk donuts. Had great apple fritters.

Hard to believe they started in 1996. Think of the lack of craft beers from then and the explosion of microbreweries nowadays.

Yep. Prepare for another chain restaurant. Can’t blame the property owner but sucks never the less.

I was a regular back in the day when I first started loving craft beer. Loved watching football there and trying all of the new beers I had never heard of.
I always enjoyed their wings
