What else should I get to complete the package?

Got this at Marshall's for $49, couldn't pass it up.

I don't think I have had anything cooked sous vide style.

What's the craze about?

Don’t you need a tub/container and something to keep the food submerged?

I know you can get a container, but is it any better/worse than using a large pot?

I would think you are fine doing that.

I use a magnalite roaster sometimes. It works fine. Tent some foil over it to reduce the evaporation on long cooks.

NY strip loin is a great suggestion for a first time SV.

Is it necessary to vacuum seal whatever you're cooking?

Ziplocks work, but get a vacuum sealer for less of a hassle.

I use only ziplocks now... just submerge into water then zip up, water pushes all the air out.

Do yall have any recommendations for a vacuum sealer? There appear to be a bunch around 50-60 on Amazon with decent reviews

I use my pasta pot for smaller items. Works great. I wouldn't go out an buy something until you've tried what you have around the house and know more about what you personally need.
