Holy shite! $46 a pound I saw today. The butcher at Calandro's said "Yeah if cooked that it'd just be for me. Not sharing that."

I've stopped buying it at the grocery stores.

From where I live, 45 minute ride to the coast for live crabs when we're in the mood for a relaxing boil afternoon, buy way more than we'll need, and peel the remaining cold cooked crabs the next morning. Vaccum seal the meat in several bags to take out for gumbos and etouffees later.

Market Price for Snow Crab legs use to be 10-15$/pound a year ago, now they are going for 25-30$/pound. King Crab legs use to be 25-30$ a pound and now they are 50-55$/pound.

Crab prices have appreciated more than most things this past year.

It wasn't all that many years ago that king crab legs would go on sale for $9.99 a lb. Those were the days!

Yeah, and I use to be able to buy all the oysters I wanted in 100 lb. sacks with 20-22 dozen in them for $10.

Those days are LLLLOOOOONNNNGGGG gone.

I'd rather pay $40+ in Ascension or drive south, than get shot or robbed.

How many times have there been any such incidents at Tony's?

I just go catch my own crabs.

The price of king crab boggles my mind. 1 day it's 22.99/lb, now it's 36/lb. Sadly, those fisherman are probably not making much more even though prices suggest they should be.
