Are you from Monroe? Apparently, some people down in New Orleans think this about your food. We are having a competition to determine the best/most popular restaurant in Louisiana. We need a representative of Monroe who knows about the Monroe, and preferentially, the Alexandria, dining scenes. Are you that person?

I am from Monroe, though I don't live there anymore. I know a good bit about the good places to eat there. SonOfMike, why the hate for Monroe?

Everyone mentions Tunks, but it has gone downhill.

Alexandria is the worst city in LA for food and general, everyday living.

My dad worked for the Hixson dealership up there and would drag me on that ride three times a week for a few years. I got kicked out of one of the bars on 6th street as well. So more the dislike comes from my own circumstances and not the town itself.

Have you ever even been to Alexandria? I can think of 10 other places with worst food and living.

Yes-I spend lots of time in Alexandria. 3 or 4 days a month

Are there even ten other cities in LA?

I don't understand all the negativity towards Johnny's.... it is after all the best pizza EVER!!!!!

I really do like it, and FWIW think it's the best chain in NWLA. All the greasy delicious goodness that it has to offer, washed down with an ice cold beer.

Tulane, I know I'm not your target since I've already signed up, I just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

ETA: I hope this doesn't DQ me from the tourney.

Don't get to Alexandria, so can't say much about the food. Sonofmike, how did you manage to get booted from 6th street?

Long story but somehow ended up calling one of the owners/managers something along the lines of a count.

and yes i don't think there are ten other cities in LA. You are right about that

Monroe Good Food

- Late great Toto's Hamburgers
- Johnny's Pizza (I think it was better back in the early 80s before the infighting and subsequent BJ's Pizza)
- BBQ West
- The Creamery (decent burgers..served in wax paper with a toothpick)
- Ray's PeeGee open face burger
- Old West Monroe Dairy Queen
- Clyde's (RIP)

I have eaten at Sage in Monroe...what many would call the best restaurant in the city.

It was good.

I am sure someone has to have more fine dining experience than that in Monroe though.

I went to high school with the owner of sixth street. He probably didn't appreciate you calling him a count, but who would.
