Back when it was only a 2-lane? We were discussing this..sadly the Bottle Shop is just a concrete foundation these days.

I remember hot summer days and burlap sacks sliding down the superslide..wasn't it alternating red/yellow tracks?

..and at one end we had K&B and their delicious ice cream..and at the other we had Genevas and the Thrift Shop with their pink hostess snowballs. Only place in town I knew that sold them.

Here's a toughie for you..remember "Hensley's Grocery" downtown? It was near the Howard Johnson next to the elevated I-20..kinda where the Popeye's Chicken later popped up.

How about Ricky Nelson at the ARk-La-Miss fair at the Civic Center and Festus as the grand marshall of the Christmas parade?

Hensley's is now LA Pain Care. My dad and boss both worked there. The company I work for built the new building on that site. Nevilletiger, I graduated in 94. My brother had the same job as you at monroe's in 98 & 99 I believe.

A bit of trivia for you. The windows from the old Swensons on 165 N are still in the closed down Joe Bob's Seafood restaurant out past the Landing on White's Ferry Rd.

His whole point in starting this thread was to draw out some people for the restuarant tournament. I've never eaten at Johnny's and if I am ever up north I will give it a go.

I used to live outside Monroe in Calhoun. Johnny's pizza was one of the few saving graces of the region. It wasn't the best ever, but it was damn good.
