Headed to orange beach next week and plan to make a trip to Pensacola. Was going to stop by, and possibly stock up some stuff for the freezer. Any must haves? I looked at their page on Yelp and the pics look awesome.

I got the Royal Reds last weekend, and they were huge and awesome at like 5.49/lb.

Get some, but don't freeze it. It's a great time for a West Indies salad, particularly at the beach.

Go to Maria's and get seafood from the gulf instead.

Meaning Joe Patti's isn't local seafood? Good to know if so.

I always made the extra effort to grab some shrimp from joe pattis. It's remarkably fresh and delicious. The scallops are really good too.

Side note: they have really cheap and delicious gelato as well.

Ruby Reds, snapper, scallops. Everything I've had from there has been really good and fresh.

I saw a call in infomercial type show where Uncle somebody and his niece, from the Patti family, fielded calls about the store.

Uncle didn't pretend everything they stock comes from the Gulf. Folks asked about various items, and he candidly explained where they came from. They were from all over the planet, including the Gulf.

I always pick up some snapper and grouper throats. JPs can be overwhelming at times, make sure you give yourself some time there. And you can blow through money QUICK.

With as much seafood as they sell, I can see them sourcing some non-gulf seafood.

I'm sure it is mostly fish that is non-gulf. There are a lot of restrictions in the gulf now (mostly on fish) and there just isn't as much seafood available for retail.

Grouper or snapper throats and cheeks if they have some. Also scamp is one of my favorite gulf fish. They have a great selection of other unique dips and spreads. Take your time and walk through the entire market. Lots of great finds for foodies there.

You gonna tell me that the Maine lobsters that I bought from there last year were not from the Gulf?? I call shenanigans....

Don't be spouting that kind of logic here. You MUST tell these people what to eat and when. Also how to cook it!
