Yes kids eat Pigs in Blanket, and the combination with celery and PB&Raisins was actually a pretty solid after school kid snack But Food Network Kids never eat that kind of kid stuff.

He said that was the hardest challenge in the entire run, because there was nothing 'Louisiana' or 'cajun' available to him in the fridge/pantry.

Sounds like something a 14 year old boy who'd never been in the kitchen would make. Probably the worst idea I have ever seen on any Food Network show ever. Absolutely terrible.

But as expected, his presentation was good.

I had zero expectation he would be eliminated because he is so good on camera. I knew he'd kill it in the elimination challenge. Which he did, even though his cooking was yet again a stumbling block.

They aren't keeping Arnold.

Jay and Eddie are final 2.

I haven't been watching (I cut the cord at my apartment), but I have been watching this thread and I've seen the show before...

If Louisiana/Cajun is the schtick he is going with (and I think he should! I don't mean schtick in a negative way), why would they do this? Don't they want each contestant to stick with a certain "theme"? If so, why would they not offer ingredients that make this theme accessible?

I understand that is all part of the challenge, but no LA-type ingredients for someone who has proclaimed to be a LA-style chef seems odd.
I don't remember the details of when that Indian woman won a few years ago, but did they take away all Indian spices for some of her challenges? I can't recall.

Cable or all of TV.

I want to do this so badly. But football season is upon us.

Ya gotta adapt better than pigs in a blanket and ants on a log. There is no excuse for that.

It wasn't just at the Rouge abode. White (fried chicken or sausage) gravy on rice or white bread toast was eaten in my house for any meal of the day. Easiest thing in the world to heat up in the pre-microwave days.

Yeah, his after school snack was not very imaginative, but he presented it well-making the dessert cocktail was his home run last night. I agree with whoever said he and Eddie are both deserving of a shot at their own show.

I can say in all of our years growing up, this was never an after school snack.

The good thing though is that the first challenges each episode don't really matter. That's not what they are basing the eliminations on. Jay missed out on the advantage for winning, but that's not a huge deal.

I'm not exactly sure what the Food Network's expectation of an "After School Snack" are.

It's supposed to be a little something to fill you up before you eat dinner in like 2-3 hours, not a meal.

Jay did the challenge well with what was a stupid theme. What he made, while too simplistic, is more of a reality of what the normal mom would make for their kid. If only he could have found a way to elevate them?

I mostly had apple with peanut butter or something of that nature after school.

Rice and gravy? Shrimp pizza? These aren't snacks.

That whole deal was idiotic. Clearly the burger toppings would win regardless of what everyone else did. And bobby randomly deciding who would do what? It was a setup to create drama by forcing Jay into an impossible situation.

They even overlooked Eddie's clear lack of POV in that portion.

Jay made it passed two of the tougher challenges yet. And whoever said his cooking faltered "again", that is just stupid. He was forced to make an after school snack and a dessert, both of which is not something that fits his POV.

We never had rice and gravy, but we had those little frozen mini pizza bagel bite things. That's what made me think of a mini pizza. Not a meal but a snack since they're "bites".

I didn't think the pigs were the worst thing. When he said it, I cringed, but I assumed he'd be able to elevate them in some way like puff pastry instead of the biscuits or some sort of extra filling, though with 30 minutes, I'm not sure what he could have done short of some kind of sauce for them.

On it's face, the challenge doesn't sound bad, but it was awful. With short time to think and short time to cook, I'm not sure what I'd come up with other than my earlier suggestions and I'm not sure I would have thought of those. I probably would have fried the pigs if I'd have made those. We loved fried refrigerated biscuits as kids. Hindsight and armchair watching is a lot easier than being there. I might have bombed that one so badly, they would have let me go before the next challenge.

I loved vanilla wafers with peanut butter on them after school, but I didn't eat a snack every day.

That's one of the things I don't really like about the show. They've all had to make things that they'd never do on their own show.

That's the problem with the challenge. Most kids are wanting some fancy snack. If he'd went the mini pizza route, people would be like oh great you made a bagel bite.
