Well this was from this past Saturday, so we were a few days early. But we went to Island Creek Oyster Farm and got these straight off the boat with a couple bottles of white wine. This was round one of two.

They offer shipping and they look delish. I am going to order some for the next occasion we have.

Navy Cove's in August are excellent raw. They have the flavor of the best February oyster...even in the summer.

It's a new world, guys.

I questioned it on LDWF's Facebook and was told that only applied before refrigeration.

True to a degree. My experience is oysters in the deep south tend to be milky and not near as fat as fall/winter/early spring oysters.

Generally, this is my experience, too. BUT, not so with "farmed" oysters from the Gulf that are grown in floating cages. They can be excellent year 'round.

And surprisingly, a buddy said he had oysters last weekend at Superior Seafood in Nola and they were very, very good...plump, salty , and not milky.

That's how I feel too. I like them fat and salty.

Who the frick picked August for oyster day? Some friggen millennial that’s who! Friggen August doesn’t have an R in it! Everyone old enough to know what an ice box is knows that you don’t eat milky August oysters.

Happy National Oyster Day! The R is myth and True! Refrigerator and farm raised oysters have allowed us to enjoy oysters year round. Wild Gulf oysters spawn in the summer and produce flaccid, milky and chalky meats. Farm raised oysters do not reproduce. Thanks Otis2! I’m spoiled on these bad boys.

I visited Island Creek Oyster Farm last June! Wonderful and beautiful operation they have going on there. I’m praying to get to that point one day. Tours had started on Navy Cove Oysters and then Covid happened. Our 2nd Oyster festival is still on the the calendar for the last Saturday in February at Ft Morgan on the grounds outside the Fort.
