It's unfortunate that most of their bread sucks now, especially the rolls.
Used to be homemade. Not anymore.
Always got the cornbread...both the Mexican sticks and the triangular shaped. The pies were terrific. Always like the roast beef and years ago, the etouffee was really tasty. It was strange and not really an etouffee, but it tasted good whatever it was and the serving was large for the money. Probably Chinese crawfish now, if they still serve it.
I could eat at Picadilly once in a while. I enjoyed the vegetables and they make an Italian sort of dressing that is very good.

I agree. Piccadilly prices haven't increased nearly as much as Cane's.

I can't remember the last time I had Piccadilly, probably 15 years ago. My grandmother used to love it. I didn't realize that it began in Baton Rouge.

multiple: there's one on government street near BR Magnet High and one on Florida somewhere as well

Piccadilly is a shell of what it once was but I still go from time to time. They like their salt. I like the hamburger steak and black eye peas. Used to have the best étouffée around.
THIS !
Add the cornbread sticks and Lemon pie.
I still stop at Government street for lunch on occasion just to hear Henry Gray on the piano.
That more of a treat than the lunch

Catholic High bought that whole shopping center. That Piccadilly caters all of CHS food service.
I ate at the one in Delmont Village a month ago and I haven't been there in 35 years. Like stepping back into the 60's.
I grew up with all the Hamilton girls who owned it. Cool to walk into one with them in Junior High and eat free once in awhile.

Apparently recipes differ from location to location. I get the hamburger steak at Essen, and it's quite tasty. The one at Westmoreland that was recently brought home to me was pretty disappointing and nothing like the Essen. I assume they're the same dish, but this one had a thin sauce and onions, while the Essen one had a thicker gravy and no onions. Both were definitely hamburger steaks.
I'd second the crawfish etouffee at Essen. It's decent, and they give you a ton of it.

I went to the one on Sherwood Easter Sunday and the roast beef, liver & onions, Neptune salad, and carrot soufflé were all on point. Unfortunately for 4 of us (including one who is a 5-year old) it was 50 bucks.

I managed a piccadilly for seven years , when they started getting away from made from scratch recipes i left . 90% of there current offerings are premade . What a shame .

Piccadilly is a shell of what it once

My wife got the 'gumbo' on our visit. Seemed like they just tossed all of their old leftover fish into a big pot, threw in some veggies, and called it gumbo. She ate about 2 bites... thankfully my kids aren't big eaters and she was able to mooch off of them.

Can a business, like Piccadilly, go back and find its roots and become successful again or is current management incompetent to steer them back in the right direction?
Homemade wins out over pre-made every time.

With training cost and having to add extra labor it is probably too late . Financially they are already in a tight spot . Acquisition of Morrisons did not help . Management bonus plan was slashed . I loved the product 20 years ago , I have not eaten at Piccadilly in 15 years . They had an awesome management training program .

Yep, the rectangle cod, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and a roll.

An interesting read
My father built about 40 or so of them all over the south from the late 50's to the late 80's with National Construction which was Piccadilly's in house general contractor. It was run by Pete Genteel and Mr. Macintosh great guys. I worked on many during my summers. Buying Ralph and Kacoos for $38 million didn't help either.
They did have a great program and I knew several who went through it. David Rogers is a friend of mine and was at Delmont Village for 20 years until taking over the catering and deli at Tonys Seafood.
I remember when Bill Richards the CEO and son in law of the founder got run over on Essen Lane on his bicycle. He swerved in front of a guy I grew up with and got killed.
And the day they went to Chinese crawfish in the Ettoufee I knew I was done with that dish.
I've always tipped a couple dollars at the table because those poor old women that bus and wait are a pretty sad bunch and I feel sorry for them. That's a hard way to scratch out a living and you can tell they are just holding on to the fringe.

KPLC has learned from an unidentified worker at the restaurant that they are leaving the mall but are expected to reopen on Ryan Street.
Good to hear!
I'll still be able to get their roast beef and mac & cheese!

So they close the Ryan street location for two years? then reopen?
That is weird but that place has been sitting there since that one closed and everything in the mall is folding up so maybe it's in the business best interest to be on a major road and not a big building no one goes to anymore. (Just a guess)
It's now a big building with a food court and similar places in the food court are all across the street, the Chinese places, there's a drive thru Chick Fil A down the street.

I used to go there when visiting my grandma in LA years ago.
Posted on 5/3/14 at 2:34 am to Martini
I'm the same way. I feel terrible for the waitresses that work there
Chicken fried steak FTW. Loved going there with my grandmother but haven't been in a few years
