Why? For Banana's Foster? Its very easy to make.. I wouldnt go there for just dessert. Breakfast there is overrated and Dinner is underrated in my opinion. There are other option for a just dessert place.

they aren't going to deny you a table but be aware ther is a huge convention in the city so they may be packed

Yes, and I'll try and make it from our hotel room. Its something the fiancee really likes.

Suggestions? I'm open to any. I don't dine enough in NOLA to know.

Angelo Bacato
Cuvee lots of great desserts
Herbsaint chocolate beignet is very good

If she really likes Banana's foster you may be able to get it at the bar there too which may be a better option than reserving a table. Of course the same banana's foster would be served at any Brennan restaurant. But I would recommend getting a dessert at the bar of any upscale restaurant. (Of course not sure how they would do Banana's Foster since its a tableside thing)

Do they serve wine? I'm a big fan of dessert wines...

I don't know if it's too late, but can I suggest Clancy's for dessert? We went there for my birthday last year and had the banana ice cream and lemon ice box pie for dessert... to die for. Really. We've gone back just for dessert and have been seated at the bar. It's wonderful.

But we called first to see if it's acceptable to drop by for just dessert.

Most everyone will accomadate this providing they have the space. My wife and I used to do this quite a lot. Have dinner somewhere, maybe leave from there and go have a glass of wine at another place then end at a third with dessert and coffee. Makes a nice evening and most restaurants really don't mind. I just tend to tip a little better with it.

You really need to A) Pick a slow time (end of the night), B) Call/check w/ maitre d', C) Let the waiter know as soon as you're seated that you'll only be having a dessert and that you'll D) Tip accordingly, (over-tip)

Otherwise it's not fair to the restaurant or the wiater - they depend on turning tables with reasonable ticket/tip sizes

Desserts typically don't take as long to make or eat as a meal. How would the tip per minute be any different than if the same couple came in and split a dinner?

Waiting tables isn't easy or something for the lazy, but I swear I've never seen a bigger group of whiney bitches wanting easy money than current and former waiters on this message board telling restaurant patrons that most of the time they really should just stay home and realize they're too poor for restaurant food and go to McDonalds instead.

Not trying to hijack the thread or aim that comment at you, but it just pisses me off a little to think that I have to jump through a bunch of hoops if all I want is dessert. The entire thrust of your business is serving food to people. Maybe the grocery store doesn't make a killing when I pick up milk and bread after work, but when I go back that weekend and get a basket full of groceries they more than make up for it. Likewise, that low margin dessert is just priming the pump for a bigger expenditure when I return for something like my anniversary dinner, or when mom and dad come visit.
