Some people in this thread need help. If food does not come from the sea, it is NOT seafood. It doesn't matter if your parents mis-labeled it for you and you never figured it out; it is fish, though. Some fish come from the sea. Some fish come from a river. Some fish come from human-stocked farm ponds. Two of those are not seafood. Duh!

People who actually get offended by the mislabeling of fish need immediate help

I get offended of mislabeled fish if the intent is to sell me something cheaper for more money.
That being said I don't worry too much when frog legs come on my seafood platter. I'm not quite that anal. Close but not quite.
And gaff top catfish are saltwater catfish and very food to eat. I have a nice bag in my freezer that I caught in Breton Sound a month ago.

So fresh water crabs are not seafood?

What about salmon that live in the sea and in rivers?
Is it only sea food if it comes from the sea, therefore not seafood if it comes from a bay, lagoon, or even the gulf?

SEAfood.
Although honestly, I think most everyone just says seafood to include all fish, shell fish, etc.

In the end it all about how you cook it and how it taste and those Yankees have no clue! Sorry but Captain D's style sucks!

Why yes it is unless you consider it fat, then yeah, it's meat. It's NOT BEEF though.
