Just saw a Restaurant Impossible episode where Chef Robert Irvine comes to Baton Rouge to bail out Boil & Roux restaurant from failure.
Anyone ever been there? Is it now legit?

its common knowledge most places on that show are fake or close soon after the show leaves.

i cant speak to this place, but only one in ten places on that show still are open 6 months after the show leaves

Robert’s extensive experience with South Louisiana cuisine certainly bore fruit here, I’d think.

What do you mean it's common knowledge the places are fake? As in they just made up a restaurant for the show?

i'm guessing the degree to which the drama and antics are portrayed on a scripted tv show

duck dynasty says hi

I wonder if that's an indictment of the show or of the restaurant ownership. My guess is the latter.

I agree. It seems he gives them all the tools needed to be successful, even suggesting and sharing his recipes.
A shitty owner cannot expect to be successful if they don't change their approach, which is what got them on the show to begin with.

This particular owner of Boil & Roux boasted repeatedly of being the first black-owned casual dining restaurant in Baton Rouge. If so, I find that surprising.
But as a person of color, myself, I couldn't care less of the owner's race or religion when I choose a place to dine at. It's all about the food and the service, baby!~

I remember when they redid that pizza joint on Jefferson after customers got their feelings hurt by the owner unwilling to accommodate their amateurish pizza recs. Was a damn shame because the pizza there was solid.

The owner of that joint was a straight up a-hole though.

Customer may not always be right but you cant just be a dick to your customers. Also, if jalapeno with my pepperoni pizza is wrong I don't want to be right. Dude wouldn't even do that, and after the show he still made you pay like $3 a topping to do that.

The show gave the restaurant a new look but a crappy owner isn’t likely to change. Unless these places hire a real manager to run the restaurant, most aren’t going to last.

Yeah. the places on this show are in a pretty deep hole by the time they get there. I think Irvin genuinely cares and does his best to help them, but he's only there for 3 days. only so much you can do. most them are just hoping they can hold on until their episode airs to get some boost in business.

If someone is lazy with their own management and lively hood that isn`t changing in three days. He couldn`t get his staff to come into work much less on time.

I don`t care what the skin color is either. Treat me with respect and have good food and service, and I`ll be back and tell others to try you out.

what you see is all a production with planned and rehearsed drama acting to entertain viewers.

the places and names are real businesses, but beyond that, its as fake as wrestling

The reason he shows up is because they are all tax delinquent and at that point it’s only a matter of time
