Just came across these for $5 a piece and figured I couldn't buy a Lodge for that price so why not. I know next to nothing on cast iron manufacturers or history. Any insight on what I have here they don't appear to have ever been cooked in so I'm assuming they are 'new'

Looks like some Wagner Ware.

For real though, I bet you could have those looking like new pretty easily and would be your best pieces of cookware.

That's the General Housewares Corporation's cast iron line known as Wagner Ware. They were manufactured in the US some years ago.

You’re just guessing. There’s is no way of knowing that for sure.

True, but I've gotten really good at recognizing Wagner Ware over the last 10 minutes. I've not completely ruled out that it is counterfeit, though.

They are made of cake and not actual iron.

From what I recall, the Wagner Manufacturing Company was a family-owned manufacturer of cast iron and aluminum products based in Sidney, Ohio, US.

It made products for domestic use such as frying pans, casseroles, kettles and baking trays, and also made metal products other than cookware. Wagner was active between 1891 and 1952, and at one time dominated the cookware market, selling in Europe and the US.

The purchasers of the company in 1952 continued the brand, and Wagner products are still manufactured today.

The original items are prized by collectors.

You would also know them as the producer f original Magnalite pots.

Wagner made the original Magnalite pots, which are the GOAT and also pretty hard to find, unless you are willing to spend a pretty penny. My fiance' brought one to the relationship and when I asked if I could have it when he dies, he told me he plans to be buried with it. Rude.

Seriously, though, those are a steal at $5. You'll have to season them, obviously, but worth the work.

Hasn’t Lodge been the only American manufacturer for decades now? They’ve got to be old

They're later Wagners. Post 1960. They'll clean up nice and cook really well but they aren't collectables.

They're worth more than $5. Nice find.

Looks like post 1969. Still probably good quality pieces, though. This was an interesting article that details the history

Thanks for all the responses. Have them pretty much cleaned up, the surface rust was being a bit of a bitch, going to try and season them tonight.

Just have to watch for pitting. May need to be scrapped is unable to get a good seasoning. No real money investment. Only time. Throwing them in a fire is often best way to get rid of all that rust and wear. Get back to pure iron.

I took the sander to it and smoothed the interior bottom a little. No major rust damage. Did a little vinegar soak too.

Honestly seems like they were new and never seasoned. Felt and smelled like an oil coating when I was cleaning.

My advice, season the shite out of them and put them on eBay.

You'll get waaay more than $5.

Chatty praise of Magnalite can be found everywhere in the South Louisiana online orbit, from local Facebook trading groups in Lafayette to Louisiana State University football message boards, where one poster recently gushed, “What a great cooking utensil! By far the best overall pots ever!”

wonder what message board that could be
