If you were redoing a kitchen and budget was no option, what appliances would you choose?

Sub Zero 42" side by side fridge and freezer - the gold standard

Wolf 48" dual fuel range, six burners and a griddle (not a fan of double ovens in the wall)

Best 54" chimney hood (they run more quiet than Wolf hoods)

Wolf 30" microwave drawer

Bosch dishwasher

Only for shock value maybe. Thermador and Jenn-Air tend to perform better and are quieter. LG and Samsung french door fridges tend to be the best in the category. IMO

That said, the sight of a big arse Sub Zero in your kitchen is definitely a show stopper.

Me:
twin gas ranges
Hot and cold pot filler at the range
double frialator
Commercial hood
super deep sinks
I like my twin ovens on the wall
Salamder.

Pretty much just set me up with a commercial kitchen.

I went with price-is-no-object range & dishwasher for my build: BlueStar range & Bosch dishwasher.

Don't get the need for crazy high end fridge: it's just a box that keeps things cold.

Looked at all sorts of hoods & ended up with a 1200 CFM Broan professional, stainless steel on outside and stainless baffles & drip rail like a commercial unit underneath. Far more functional & practical than units at three times the price.

I do wish I had opted for double electric wall ovens, but I didn't want to sacrifice the space. Maybe in a small remodel in a few years....

My FIL took his kitchen, a downstairs guest room, and the laundry room and made a monster kitchen and bigger laundry room. All Viking pro appliances. Spider cooktop, double oven, coffee maker, microwave, massive fridge, and wine cooler. The kitchen is probably 500-700 sqaure feet.

I wouldn't take a kitchen full of those if they were given to me. For every happy Viking user, there are 5 or 6 with chronic problems. Those things are repair hogs. I know someone right now who bought a house with a 48" viking; ovens proceeded to malfunction 3 or 4 months later. $2K in repairs, they still won't hold correct temps, and proper parts to fix are no longer available.

No thanks to any/all high BTU output stoves with electronic circuitry.

But if I were building a kitchen to look great & never had to be the person cleaning it, I'd want one of those gorgeous La Cornue chateau ranges in summer blue, with chrome trim: LINK

I'm not really a fan of the "commercial" look and feel of a lot of the high end stuff. Its heavy as hell and completely unnecessary for normal home use. Its expensive as hell to fix and replace too, and often times a PITA to find a repair man. New cheese drawer on a Viking Fridge-$500. Absurd.

I have learned to put your stove on the outside wall, so that you can vent to the outside very easily. Vents so much better than having to pipe it down a tube, no matter how strong your motor. Stronger motors are usually louder too.

I definitely love an in cabinet microwave at chest level. I hate over the stove microwaves now that I have one, and I've never been a fan of drawer microwaves they are always too low.

In the time I've known him, nothing that I know of has broken.

Even then, I don't know if he cares. He's pretty loaded.

you might want to research that chief. My old neighbor had so much trouble with 2 LG appliances that LG bought them back. LG and Samsung make great TV's....appliances not so much.

Good brands have started incorporating flip-out controls that are angled up, so you don't have to bend down or lean over to use them anymore.

Is there a benefit of a microwave drawer over a trad microwave? I hate the whole drawer system personally, I know they are supposed to be nicer. But I hate having to wait for it to manually open.

(subtle brag) We stayed in a home in England that had an AGA stove that stays hot all the time, it was pretty sweet to use temporarily. Supposedly the gas bill is into the $100s of dollars just for the stove a month.

I'm not sure I'd want one full time because of how different it was, but it may be something you get used to. I didn't realize one hot plate up top was for boiling and one was simmering until after we left. It was definitely fast to simmer some food though.

The best part really was for just warming up breakfast toast/ crumpets and what not since it was already on and so fast and easy.

Those AGAs are awesome in a cold, damp climate. Nothing cozier than a kitchen with an AGA. But...they're always on. It's essentially just a big cast iron heat resevoir. If you live any place other than damp Northern Europe, they're insane.

I did. That's why I have a Samsung French door fridge that runs like a top and is quiet as church mouse. Some appliances, I would agree(Bosch 800 series dishwasher all day). Every Samsung fridge I have had has been solid.

When we were remodeling, I saw pictures on Houzz of the most beautiful ranges by Lacanche. Definitely out of our current price range, but if we're talking no budget...

Anyone have any experience with the residential True refrigerators? They look great and I see that brand in commercial kitchens all the time.
