Have some friends who have never had a great meal in New Orleans. We are all going down in a few months and I get once chance to show them what the city has to offer. One chance. I know there are untold number of good restaurants in the city, I have eaten at many of them. But I want the best, and I'm struggling to choose "the one."

Suggestions?

Your friends in Boston don't want to hear about you dining at Coquette. You will never spot it on a movie or tv show.

You go to Commanders for the reason you go to Bourbon Street when you visit, everyone will ask.

It all depends on the person.

You can't go wrong with Commanders.

But if these are jeans and polo shirt type people, ACME or Deanie's would be OK.

It all really depends on the person.

It really depends. Some of my friends like Tracy's during the day more than a dinner at Commander's/ Just know your group.

Lol? I mean I guess for some people, but I don't think that fits the parameters of the question.

Commander's makes a lot of sense for this particular question (even though it is not even close to my favorite restaurant).

However, I will go completely off script, and say on a nice weather night, Bacchanal.

"Best" is sooo subjective. And why are you picking just ONE place? It's not as though they're gonna be here for 24 hours with just one meal out, right? Think more holistically; rather than just one, curate a list of poboy, seafood, high-end/luxury, traditional neighborhood, cheffy-bistro and allow them to experience the various kinds of food we love in LA.

Local food culture is way bigger than just one restaurant.

It really depends on the type of food they enjoy or that they desire in New Orleans. Old New Orleans fare? More eclectic?

There are many restaurants which are the "best" at what they do.

Have they had any meals in New Orleans? You say they have never had a great meal in New Orleans, but not whether they've been and had mediocre meals or haven't been at all.

August is the better restaurant, but Commander's is more of an experience, which is why I think people are going with that.

R'evolution and Herbsaint are also great choices. Peche, obviously.

Another vote for Commanders - but go for lunch.

Just take them to Emeril's. It's as good as they'll be able to appreciate without being stuffy. Every out-of-towner I bring there loves it.
