Their shrimp bienvenue was the only thing worth going for, then they stopped making that.
PSA: Porchlight's Belle Shrimp is nearly identical.

RIP Sammy's.
Lightning in a bottle in late 80s-90s. Front bar was a great place once upon a time. I guess Sammy's will be on the Nostalgia threads starting next year.

I don't know about the Zachary location, but I gotta believe that the Prairieville Walk-ons put a whipping on the Sammy's in Prairieville.
To me, the only plus that Sammy's had were big tables that you could sit a medium-large group quickly. At their best, they were mediocre.
Walk-0ns upped the game only 2 miles down the road. Still the noisy atmosphere, much bigger bar with lots of beer choices, a much better menu, with plenty of seating.
Hoping something cool can make it in Sammy's building. We still could use a barbecue or steak place out here!

As someone that spent longer then I like to admit in the restaurant industry, all of the employees hanging around are the ones with absolutely no motivation to improve their life unless they have to lol.
The staff know very well the ship is sinking. Usually the better wait staff and kitchen staff jump restaurants as soon as there's a small issue or a better opportunity around town. Limited food and drink options and frustrated customers is a crappy thing to deal with as a waiter and the tips certainly are not good.

Does anybody have the recipe for the cheese sticks I have tried several recipes off internet but there never as good
Plain mozzarella( not soft water mozzarella) cut into sticks.
Flour seasoned with garlic powder, salt, paprika, pepper
Finely grounded panko with Italian seasoning.
Take four containers. Put buttermilk in the 1st and third, flour in second, panko in last. Go from 1st BM to flour, then second BM, then panko. Lay on tray and freeze till ready for frying.
Worked in prep kitchen on Highland from 05-07
Eta: cant remember if we put onion powder in the flour or not.

Is Sammys on Highland back open? Just passed by and there were cars in the parking lot and no chains on doors.

Owner comes off a bit abrasive I've seen him react on FB a couple of times. Reminds me of another owner who couldn't handle criticism and wanted to fight people on this board.

It (Highland location) was never "closed". They have closed early several times over the past few weeks as it depends on their stock levels (liquor/food). I assume the manager also makes the call to close early if there are not many customers coming in.
I used to go there quite a bit as I live a minute away and pass by it everyday.
My assumption is Sammy is praying he can make it till crawfish season starts but not sure if he can. Heard he is on COD (as in Cash, no checks) with every vendor.

It was great when it first started as a single location however expansion is not always good in the resturant business..
Along with the fact that it is nearly impossible to find workers who want to work today

Meanwhile Tony at George's Southside is serving good food and cold beer. This could be really good for their business.
