I didn't realize that Emeril's restaurant NOLA had never reopened after Covid

He officially announced today that it will not be reopening

quote:

One of Emeril Lagasse’s longest-running restaurants, NOLA in the French Quarter, has closed permanently, the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate reports. It’s the second longtime New Orleans spot the celebrity chef’s restaurant group has closed this year, following Emeril’s Delmonico in February 2022.

NOLA, first opened on St. Louis Street in 1992, has been closed since the arrival of the COVID pandemic and citywide dining restrictions, as was the case with Emeril’s Delmonico. A representative told Eater that the Emeril Group has plans to open more restaurants “in the pipeline” and will not be closing any additional restaurants — Lagasse still operates casual cafe Meril and fine-dining Emeril’s, his very first restaurant, both in the Warehouse District.

Meanwhile, Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts, the prolific New Orleans-area restaurant with a portfolio of restaurants serving traditional New Orleans cuisine like Cafe Maspero and Broussard’s, has leased the space at 534 St. Louis Street to further expand its burgeoning mini-chain, Boulevard American Bistro.

It took him awhile to even open the flagship. He had announced plans whereby each retaurant would open on a given schedule to give him time to individually staff them. Looks like he'll be down to just Emeril's and Meril's.

He is opening a Spanish place on Baronne across from the Rouse’s. NOLA was a perfect example of a great restaurant that I never thought to go to.

It always seemed all over the place on what it wanted to or what it was trying to be.

The NOLA bar was a great place to eat and drink, and always had interesting locals or people with a second home nearby.

I don't know about later but when it first opened it was a "test bed" for any new dishes he was thinking about putting in one of his other places. Also, any new Chef he hired had to do a turn there to prove themselves. Which was why I liked going there. You could always find something or someone new in the kitchen.

Boulevard?! You know it will be more expensive in the Qaurters and it's hard to imagine how much more expensive they could charge for mediocre food.

Delmonico was a place I wanted to be better than it was.
I liked the interior but never had a really good meal there (never had a bad one either). Maybe it was the name.

Im assuming Creole Concepts still owns the building on Magazine by Bulldog. Surprised they never tried another restaurant there.

Might not know how to make a successful 'concept' uptown.

Meh. Another Houston's copycat that doesn't get it.

Yes, they do. And it's going to be an Italian restaurant.

The Italian place a few doors down wasn't too bad. Forgot the name now.

The owners of Costera were going to do an Italian place as well a mile or so up Mag, haven't seen much movement there.
