Peche is mediocre at best and this board is obsessed with this place. I would rather Brigtstens, Clancy’s, DTB, Seaworthy over Peche.

If you’re set on oysters try Navy Cove oysters from Gulf Shores.

Their baked drum is the only fish I’ve had that was in the same ballpark as the Sole at Le CouCou.

OP asked about Peche, not the others you listed. Best fish dishes in a city that is seafood centric.

Having been to all of those places including Peche in the last year I couldn’t disagree with you more.

I disagree with you on Peche, but I also don't think those restaurants are in the same group as Peche other than serving seafood.

When we first went to Peche, we ordered a lot of the snacks and small plates to taste a number of things. Since then, we mix it up. Really depends on what draws you at the time and some of the specials at the time. I've tried many things and enjoyed every dish. the shrimp roll was my least favorite, but it was still good. I love the spicy shrimp noodles, fried bread, hushpuppies, smoked tuna, any whole roasted fish, any fish dish pretty much, shrimp toast and the list goes on. The soups have all been good, as well. I wish they had more crabmeat options simply because I love crab.

Barritts Ginger beer, Seafood Gumbo, and fried bread was my go to hangover meal on Saturdays for lunch when I lived downtown.

I would add to Blackened Out the smoked drum salad (usually one of the crudos) is often the best thing on the menu.

Besides the fried bread, anyway. Also a fan of the smoked tuna dip.

I feel exactly the same way as your dad about the price of that fish at Peche. I can appreciate it as a wonderful dish, but I have the luxury of ready access to redfish and the ability to reproduce the dish over a wood fire in my own backyard. That restaurant dish is a near approximation to countless grilled redfish eaten while still wearing my fishing clothes....I'm not paying $61 to have to wear shoes while eating it, LOL.

On the other hand, I happily fork over fat cash for foods I can't reliably reproduce at home, or don't have access to.
