If I made a pot that’s got 16 cups of gumbo, how much would you add to the pot?

Or, if I left it out, what’s the normal amount that would go into a cup of it, assuming there would be 16 servings out of that pot?

How do you know? You are always eating someone else’s gumbo?

I don't put it in the pot. I let folks add their own to their bowls. I'd say I use about quarter to a half teaspoon in my bowl, but my bowl is more like 12 oz than 8. For 8 oz, I wouldn't use more than a quarter teaspoon. I don't use a lot. Too much can bury some other flavors.

I put the entire jar, on the counter next to the potato salad and the oyster crackers. You want it, you add it.

I was always told that none goes in the pot. Those who want that flavor can sprinkle some onto their bowl.

I don’t put it in the pot, but I’ll add a dash or two to my bowl.

so you bought file, oyster crackers, and made potato salad just to leave it on the counter unused? weird flex, but okay.

I view it as a condiment. On the table for those that want it. Amount? Personal taste.

This. I usually do a light dusting on the top of my bowl.

Sprinkle a light dusting on my rice before adding gumbo, if it is there and if I remember, no big deal one way or the other
