I'm trying to be more responsible with my finances. Here's the problem, this month I have spent $325 at restaurants and another $200 on groceries. I clear roughly 3K a month. I know this is way too much to be spending on food and dining but I'm not sure what is an appropriate amount. I have a girlfriend, no kids.

that's high for me, but i dont go out to restaurants a lot. you're spending $85/week going out to eat. also, i usually only go out for lunch.

i'm probably more around 175/200

Money Board, maybe?

I won't post the figure that I spend, but it's a lot. It's one of my passions and I've worked my arse off so that I can spend what I want.

Did I just CSB up in here? Damn it, sorry.

And, no idea on what the "proper" ratio is for groceries, grubbing, etc when making a budget.

We're getting ready to set up a budget and this part is scary. We're going to have to actually come face to face with how much we spend on food and alcohol. It's going to be too much, we know this.

My monthly budget on Food & Drink (all combines, groceries, eating out, bars, liquor stores, buying groupons for restaurants, etc...) is $600 and I keep under that most months.

At about 525 a month on food, you're doing pretty well.

Only thing you could do is grocery shop and eat at home more.

Groceries per month: $800 That includes non - food items like toilet paper, kleenex, garbage bags, dog food, etc.

Restaurants: Zero. Haven't been to a restaurant in 3 months. Wife loves my cooking.

Budget 800 on groceries/household(if we go to Target and buy food and cleaning supplies, it all get's lumped together) and another 400 eating out. That's for a family of 4, 2 kids under 10. Usually come in a little under, but not always.

we went back and looked to see how much we were spending on food a month and other than our mortgage, it was second, and wasn't far behind the mortgage. we tried to cut back, but you're going to spend it on something, so we decided, we'll just enjoy ourselves.

At least 2k but I'm a wino and my taste for the grape gets up there on occasion. But we entertain at home a lot as well.

Too much but I don't care. It's what I enjoy.

Probably about 300 for both, if that. I have a huge deep freezer and stock up during hunting season. I have packs and packs of peeled crawfish, shrimp, crawfish "stock piled" that my mom will give me throughout the year. Also have lots of deer ground meat, deer sausage, and lots of other wild game: duck, rabbit, squirrel. Im a great cook, and love wild game, so it does not require me to buy a lot of other meat. My parents have a huge garden and grow tomatos, cucumbers, squash, and some other veggies and also give me a bunch of that.

My hubbys family have a farm and we split the cost amongst family members to slaughter pigs and cows so we have meat from that
