I have been using Flickr since the great Photobucket crash a year or two back. Today I received a notice that the free version of Flickr will soon limit you to 1000 photos and for $50 a year, you can purchase the space to store many-many more than that. It looks like they have decided to do exactly what Photobucket did.

Obviously I have lots of photos (4,480 total - virtually all for several years of Tigerdroppings use). As a retired guy, I have no desire at all to pay to store them just for Tigerdroppings use.

Storage for photos on my website is a part of the yearly hosting fee through my webpage hosting provider, so that is no problem but unless I can find a better storage option it looks like my days of posting lots of photos here are over.

That sucks, because I enjoy it.

Anyone have any ideas?

What do you guys use to (long term) store your photos?

I enjoy your photos and recipes. I use Imgur like the others have said. If that changes, we'll migrate again.

Does Imgur give permanent storage? (I understand nothing is permanent). Do they remain for weeks, or drop off the next day? I notice some folks post photos that disappear in maybe 24 hours. I thought those were Imgur photos - Am I wrong?

Does anyone know how many photos Imgur allows you to load up on their site and keep?

Not worried about back up. All of my photos are backed up on a multiple Tera-byte drive. I just want to find something that gives me a link that lasts when I post.

Don’t count on any free services to archive photos long term.

I use Imgur. The photos stay on the Imgur site but after a while only the link is visible on here. You have to click on the link to see the picture, whereas if it was posted correctly the picture, initially anyway, was visible. Hope that makes sense, it’s kinda convoluted. But I may not be doing it exactly right cause it seems like other’s photos remain visible and do not convert to a link.

Most of our pictures are stored on Dropbox and the ones I want to post here I move to Imgur. Dropbox is free but has limited storage but you can pay ~ $100/year for significant space.

Imgur....I have used it for years with no issues......well......they had an upgrade a few years ago that was counter intuitive to what I was used too but they worked it out. But all my pics still reside on the server and on here from way back when

Why do the pictures show up as links after a period of time?

I haven't encountered this, but it may be a TD issue.

Unless you have a masters degree in some sort of computer field I don’t think it’s possible.

If you scroll through the thread you will see pics on other hosting sites are now links too. So I'm sure its TigerDroppings doing this to save bandwidth.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Seriously, what do you mean? I do all; sorts of graphics and electronic manipulation of photos and graphic files.

Yep. Sucks for old recipe threads, though.
