I just went looking for a snack in the work fridge and there was a pack of "American Singles". How TF did this processed BS become the "American" cheese?? Don't get me wrong I used to eat this as a kid and on grilled cheese, but enough is enough.

It’s American ‘cheese’. It works for some things.

Do you want to rename it or just get ride if it?

re-name it and appoint a new true American cheese. I'm not sure with what yet, I haven't gotten that far. Kind of needed to see what kind of support or push back I would get first.

If only Mike Da Tigah wasn't regaling the OT about he can make such a better hamburger than McDonalds, he'd get such a boner on this thread.

There is a time and place for American cheese

Grilled cheese
Classic burgers
Breakfast sandwiches

Sticky, salty melty almost perfect in some situations.

That's many more important issues in the USA these days than re-naming the cheese yoy put on white bread for grilled cheese sandwiches.

Say what you want, but it melts great and perfect on a burger.

I think they invented it.

I don't understand the hate of it. It's just cheddar cheese with emulsifiers added to make it melt smooth.

Really thought I’d have more support on this. Oh well enjoy your American “cheese”.

I wholeheartedly embrace American cheese for a select few applications. I really enjoy it melted on a burger, breakfast sandwich, or used in a gooey grilled cheese.

I don't like it by itself or on crackers. It doesn't belong anywhere near a good cheese plate. However, I am unapologetic about my love of it being utilized on the the above-mentioned items.

My same sentiments. Also, Kraft Deli Deluxe is the only choice.

All of this is false. The is no dish in which American cheese is the best option.

You have my support. I wouldn't give it to my dog. Its definitely not fit for human consumption. If someone served me a hamburger with American cheese, i would throw it on the ground, stomp on it, then grind it into the floor with the heel of my boot, before storming out.

Why does any particular cheese have to be named American cheese?

Italians aren't changing Romano to "Italian" cheese are they?

They certainly have their place. They melt very easily on a homemade cheeseburger for sure

I made some in a cast iron pan the other day for the gf and I with some American cheese and they came out great
