I can't catch a fricking break

Boiled for 10 minutes, added hops, and boiled for 15

And somehow I didn't have enough boil off to reduce the OG to where I want it

Ran out of gas too, naturally, so I have to go to the store to get more then start boiling again

The ibus will be fricked, of course

I will be shocked if this is even remotely drinkable

I at least got the souring part right

Hopefully fermentation fixes the rest of the off taste

mid boil hop rest is what the Aztec Monks used employ. That's when they added the peyote.

That'll only happen once. I've had to run to the propane filling station mid-boil before. I picked up a second tank while I was there.

It will probably be the best beer you've ever brewed and will never be able to be replicated.

Good thing since the souring part is 90% of that style. ;)

I've had one Berliner that had that corn flavor. It was the only Berliner I did a no-boil on and I noticed a corn/cooked vegetable flavor/aroma in primary. It was pretty dominate for a couple weeks, started to fade after a month or so, and eventually cleaned up completely.

My biggest SNAFU brew day was a belgian dubble. My dog dug up and ate a sago palm about 30 mins into the boil. I had to rush her to the emergency vet. They told me she was probably going to die. Left her at the vets office and went home. Was about to dump the batch and my gf convinced me to finish it and see how it turned out.

The beer actually turned out great and won gold this year at the LHCC. You never know how things will turn out.

Dead Dog Dubbel?

Sorry. Did the dog survive?

yeah, she survived and was back to normal after few days on fluids and such at the vet.

The vet said that I was pretty lucky that by the time you see the symptoms of sago poisoning it's generally too late. I just happened to see her eating the plant and knew it poisonous, I just didn't know how nasty it was.

I'd like some thoughts from you guys on something. The guy that is the head of what was the Lufkin Homebrew Club is one of the ones opening a brewery in Lufkin. Because of the time and energy that takes, the club is basically non-existent. I have asked him before about getting it started again, and he sounds all for it, but the problem is that I don't know anything about homebrew clubs, really, I've never been a part of one. I know there is a big one in Nacogdoches, and they have membership fees that buy you certain things and they buy supplies in bulk for their members and stuff. I'm not wanting anything close to that, at least for the time being.

I guess what I'd like in a club is to get together every so often, have people to try my brews that know what they are tasting and can give helpful advice, have people to get together for occasional brew days, and stuff like that.

what are some things you like about the club you are in, or what are things you would want in a club?

The two clubs I've been a part of have been this. No dues. No officers. No rules. No nothing really. Just some guys and gals coming together to try beer, talk about beer, and get together to brew sometimes. We don't have a president or any one person in charge, but usually there is a herder sort of role. I'm the herder in my current club. In my last club it was someone else. Someone needs to make sure shite gets done. Both clubs have been fairly small. Like a dozen or less people. I could see things getting a little more organized if you start increasing numbers. One of the Brasseurs could chime in on that.

Put some feelers out and organize a brainstorming session one night. At worst you wasted an evening drinking beer.

Haha. Maybe I should work on that. I think I would want to shoot myself if I tried to make things more organized.

It has been a crazy 4 years of building and running Brasseurs. We do not have any "officers" or dues. I call myself President, mainly to people outside the group, but herder is a better word. The main piece of advice I can give you about growing a club is that you have to make then keep a schedule. At the beginning of Brasseurs we had a website and Facebook page, but it was really 4 of us going to a bar and "meeting". One time we skipped a meeting because 2 of us couldn't go, thinking well it would just be the other 2 people. That was the first time someone new showed up at a meeting. That was 3 months into the club. We haven't skipped a meeting since.

I'd be happy to help out via email (blake@brbrewers.com). Join our Facebook groups and you can start getting a better idea about what goes on.

I came to this thread to talk about beer.

I went to WYES on Friday night, had a great time. Buddy got into a slight argument with Dan from Stein's at the festival so we were not really invited to his after party (lame). Missed out on Saturday, heard my beer was a hit so that is awesome.

Yesterday I wanted to brew a beer and the wife suggested I do a double brew day and she would watch the kid. So brewed a Blonde ale with Nelson Sauvin hops and a bastardized version of my American Amber. I didn't have all the grains I needed so I subbed a bunch out. We shall see.

Double brew day was easier than expected, nice to utilize some of the old equipment. Didn't take too much longer than usual. Hot though.

Hell our club is old as frick and it is still like herding cats..

Only difference is that we're herding crotchety old cats who complain like small kids 'but this isn't how we've done it for the last 30 years' every time you want to change something.

WYES was a blast. Your strawberry pop tart ale was really good. Had some other great homebrews as well. Fratastic's sour peach farmhouse was the first (and maybe only?) of our kegs to go. S14's coffee black IPA was great as well. There was a pineapple Berliner Weisse at one of the booth's that was great and a Cafe No Lait chocolate coffee stout that was really good too.

I'm not mad that I got to bring a gallon or so of my beer back home.

Thanks! The base beer turned out great this year. I was almost sad I had to 'fruit' it and give it away.

I was pretty bummed I couldn't make it this year, but heard great things about a lot of the homebrews at the event.

Definitely.

Fanfrickingtastic

Also had some really good non-alc ginger ale that I could have drank a gallon of on Sunday and I was pretty impressed with the rest of the club's beers.

Bmoney's great as always and the Belgian Chicory stout was really good. Even the Wheat beers and brown ales were good.

How does the whole pop tart thing go anyway?

I'd love a brown sugar cinnamon beer.
