What does your IBU calculate to be? And what is a "Hop shot"? It looks heavy on the post boil and dry hopping but not much bitterness.

IBUs will be in the range of 75-100. I know I can get 75 with the hop extract. The rest will come from the whirlpool, though I might move an ounce or two to 15 to try and pick up a few more IBUs.

Is that what the "Hop Shot" is?

Did you get that local or order it? Our local guy has told me that there isn't "sufficient" demand for him to carry them. Seems kind of odd to me...

Got them online. The local shop told me the same thing.

Last night I tried the gelatin thing you linked to. My vienna/Amarillo smash was tasting good, but looked like a hot mess. Is there any sort of affect on hop aroma after you've fined with gelatin? And ho w long do you let it go? 24 or 48 hours?

No idea on the hop part of that question. But I think it works really quick. Like 24 hours or less quick.

I think the Heady Toppers of the world would never think of filtering or fining their beers but I doubt it affects it all that much.

Anyone ever use Clarity Ferm?

Picked up ingredients to make our TropicAle this weekend at LA Homebrew yesterday on my lunch break.

As long as it was cold to begin with, it should be nice and clear after 24 hours. I've had no issues with aroma on my Amarillo/Citra IPA, and it probably has the most clarity of any beer I've ever made. LoneStarTiger might be the only other person to have tried it, so ask him for an unbiased opinion.

terrible beer. Don't let others try it. Of course, since I already have tried it I can help you dispose of the rest.

I'm a generous guy like that.

I have. Doesn't do all that much clarity-wise from my experience, but some people claim it does. Could be my clarity issues weren't related to chill haze. I mainly bought it to brew some gluten-free beer for some family members. From that aspect it worked great. No gluten reactions from the family members after they drank it.

Cool. The beer was about 38 degrees when I pitched the gelatin. I pull a few pints tonight and see where we're at.

That first pint will probably be full of gunk. After that, should be a beautiful looking beer.
