I've got some folks coming in for the Auburn game and want some really fresh shrimp and a good sack of oysters. Ordinarily, I'd run down to the Delcambre dock. But I'll be in New Orleans on Thursday until late, and I'm tied up Friday morning.

Bottom line: Any place along the route between NOLA and BR to find a shrimp boat and a good oyster house? I don't mind detouring a ways if the shrimp are good. But I will have a time crunch.

TIA.

The dock below Houma at the end of Four Points Road in Dulac (actually the beginning of the road) and Wilsons Oyster in Houma on the way back. Closest I can think of. Maybe something in LaFitte

Chauvins in Dulac isn’t cheap but they have good shrimp

ETA: it’s also way out of the way from New Orleans back to BR

Yeah about 1 1/2 hours. For 15#s I'd hit the seafood lot. They should have oysters too, if not get some from restaurant depot.

Well he said he didn't mind a detour and not a lot of shrimp boats between NO and BR although as a kid I remember my dad buying straight off the boat at the dock by Middendorfs, shrimp, crab and oysters right there.

And I never bought oysters at the seafood lot. The shrimp weren't that good either but I haven't been there in several years now so that doesn't matter.

But due to this thread I'm going to Wilsons myself by Friday for oysters.

That was back when they shrimped all over lake Pontchartrain, crabbed both it and Maurepas which they still do and had oysters over the Northshore and Biloxi Marsh.

And if you remember the white shell driveways all over back then that was from dredging Pontchartrain. I remember catching Crocker on gas well heads all over it.

5 minutes from my office, my bosses daughter works there on occasion. I need to run by and get some myself. I had a sack about 3 weeks ago and they were decent but I picked them up in Golden Meadow.

After action report:

Went to seafood lot in Westwego's. Amy's had good looking shrimp, beautiful crabs, and oysters. Have not shucked any yet, but they look good. Prices very reasonable, maybe slightly higher than off the boat, but cleaner and better sorted shrimp.

Thanks to all for the advice.

Schaffers in Bucktown my have oysters by the sack. They will definitely have shrimp. Like other mentioned Westwego market may have oysters. When I need good and salty oysters I go directly to a boat in Hopedale, but you probably don't have the time.
