Had a great burger there yesterday. Added grilled onions and mushrooms and their homemade chips are outstanding. The guy who ordered the french fries said they were a little cold, thinking that they fry a whole bunch in the morning and serve all day. Best burger Ive had in awhile, great place for a quick lunch.

The remoulade is a question of taste. I am a purest...I like the white remoulade sauce. But if you like the red...they have one of the best.
Those chips are the best. At the old location the seafood gumbo was about the best restaurant gumbo ever...But I have never tried it since Betty retired from the kitchen.

Although, a classic French remoulade is white (but, really nothing at all like the "white" remoulade you typically served with shrimp in La.), the original shrimp remoulade was/is a red remoulade (started at Arnaud's).
So, I guess technically, I could call myself a "purest" (or purist) for liking the red remoulade.

I did not know that. But it stands to reason because most things creole are made with tomatoes...so, I have learned two things today...That the red sauce came before the white and how to spell purist...

If you liked the gumbo go to Uncle O's. Ouncy has the recipe that he took from Hawks Nest to Fairway View then to Uncle O's. Very well done. He sells it by the half gallon and gallon as well for take out. On Harrels Ferry at Millerville.

Did anything ever reopen in the old Fairway View spot?

do they still have the LSU stained glass thing hanging in one of the front windows? I think my parents gave it to the Smiths years and years ago.

I thought it burned up.............

Tell you the truth I haven't been back there. I'll make a swing through.
It did burn about a year or two ago and I don't know if they ever rebuilt it. Once Ouncy sold it I quit going for the most past.

I know there was a fire (it seems like there were several over the years

Did it finally burn to the ground, though? So, there's nothing open back there anymore? That's all I was wondering.

Well, guess what? The so called "Ouncy's World Famous Gumbo" was first introduced at Fairway View Lounge by "OUR VERY OWN TAVOLATIM". He taught Ouncy how to cook it, after cooking it for him for many months. I think it's about damn time that Tim gets some of the credit.

I had it at Hawks Nest prior to Fairway and it's the same. Not saying it isn't his but it's the same as Hawks Nest.
Guess he should have made it for sale.

I have a fan, Our more likely one of those bar flies I bought a drink for that remembers the nights I spent, on that little patio by the pool at fairway, stirring my roux on that propane burner...Alas, Ouncy has made more gumbo than I by now.

I remember that. I was a frequent guest at the bar. I do miss those times and the gumbo is great.

I've heard people rave about this place, but I found it to be average. The burger was not as good as many places, and the fried fish was okay...

I used to love that place. I lived at Fairway for 3 years and was there the night it burned until 1AM. I was in shock the next morning when i woke hungover to the sound of about 10 fire trucks. The guy who runs Brightside talked about reopening it for awhile. Their is an ordinance in BR not allowing restaurant/bars in apartment complexes is what i was told. The actual apt complex has changed hands and went though bad management for a few years. Last i heard they were trying to make it into a Club house.
