Seriously, I have made it my mission to try them all, at least all the big names. Best one is Harvest in Prairieville. I don’t even live in P’Ville but made the drive (twice). Get yours before they are gone. Only have a few more days.
Harvest was bought out by Alexander’s and no, they don’t have the same king cakes. Alexander’s weren’t that good. Harvest uses the same recipe that they used before being bought out is what I was told.

And for the record calandro's used to be my favorite. They are still good, just not Harvest good.
Also been to oak point several times this season. It’s def up there, possibly number 2 or 3.

Oak Point Bavarian for me. I spent 3 days on Canal St in January and had traditional Duong Fong, Randazzo, another I don't remember the name, and they were all very good.
This will be unpopular but I had a Turtle from Winn Dixie last weekend and it was surprisingly good. They must have changed something up.

Duong Fong,
It’s not really a king cake in my opinion. It’s good, just not a king cake.

We’ve had pretty many. Our favorite has been the plain king cake from Brennan’s.
I’m going to go out to oak point to get another - we had crème brûlée and cream cheese overload. Both were good.

Appreciate what you are saying, but if you haven't had Keller's from Lafayette, you truly do not know what you are missing. NOT a donut style king cake, but way better. Truly a confection.

My only problem with Oak point, is there are too many flavors to try. Their Tuxedo, Turtle, and traditional fruit/cream cheese have always been amazing. Got the Oreo cookie, and was very let down. Their blueberry, or strawberry cream cheese are still probably my favorites.
My daughter had the Reese’s one and said it was good. Said it wasn’t over loaded like the Oreo was.

That was kinda my point…. I like a change from the traditional every now and then, but oak point while good, has too many different ones to try. They have to have over 20-30 flavors.
However their old school fruit and cream cheese are great.

You had Sucre'? Sugar Love from Slidell?
Had both and both were outstanding.

Is there anyone who still does the old style McKenzie's king cake from back in the day? It wasn't a glorified cinnamon roll.

I was in line to get my first Dong Phong cake this morning at Bao market in praireville
You line up, then get a ticket number than later you get to pick the cake
Was in line for about 80 minutes
Market owner came out to distribute the tickets. They had 34 tickets today
I was #36
F***
If i hadnt stopped to get gas on the way….

We made the trek to Prairieville yesterday, king cake from Harvest (Alexander's) and then picked up lunch from Oak & Smoke. Much more impressed with the latter. Had the cream cheese/pecan praline - much too sweet and sugary. Rather Calandro's or my own, but I haven't made one since I retired.

One of the best I've come across is from Ralph's Supermarket in Gonzales. The recipe for the KCs at Ralphs and Harvest came from the same baker.
