SIAP. Tana in Old Metairie is apparently turning the old lounge area into a private dining club called “The Blue Room.” Word is the memberships are $25K per year, and Michael Gulotta says this will provide cash to make upgrades to the restaurant and overall dining experience. Given the trajectory of Gulotta’s restaurants in recent years, I’m not sure how anyone could think this was a wise investment.

It’s pretty comical. We have a group of neighbor friends we walk over there with pretty often and it’s become quite the joke amongst us (we won’t be able to join y’all once you join the Blue Room, etc).

I’m surprised this development wasn’t posted about sooner. Apparently it’s a Shane Guidry production.

How does the cost compare to the private club in Baton Rouge? I can’t see this lasting in that neighborhood. There are only so many Metry yats willing to blow that type of coin.

You vastly underestimate the pretentiousness of Old Metairie.

You vastly underestimate how much old Old Metairie dislikes Guidry's flashiness. They'll be discussing this over a cocktail at MCC, not in The Blue Room.

They put a huge blue marble "communal high top table" in there. Here's the Instagram post:

TANA is entering a more focused chapter centered around its food, service, and overall guest experience. Moving forward, the restaurant is refining its approach with a tighter operational footprint and a stronger emphasis on becoming the kind of true neighborhood restaurant guests can return to regularly, whether for a special occasion, a casual Sunday family dinner, or a lighter lunch during the week. The menu will continue leaning into Italian comfort food while highlighting the seasonality, freshness, and balance rooted in Chef @michaelgulotta’s Italian training and culinary perspective.
As part of that evolution, we are introducing a new communal high top table designed to create a more approachable and social experience for walk-ins, casual cocktails, and happy hour, giving our guests a more flexible way to enjoy TANA!
While TANA sharpens that focus, a separate private club concept is also taking shape within the property, designed to remain discreet and intentionally understated for our more discerning clientele. Known as The Blue Room, the members only dinner club will maintain a limited profile, with applications available through the restaurant for those interested in learning more.

Rumor is that it has strong ties to the governor

quote:

It’s a private playground for Louisiana political insiders to wine, dine, and cut deals while regular people get ignored. The membership is $25,000. Why do you think they didn't share that here? And why do you think membership costs that much? Because they do NOT want ordinary people in the room. They want access for the wealthy, connected, and politically protected.
Jeff Landry, Shane Guidry, and the same corrupt Louisiana political crowd all circling each other behind closed doors while people in this state struggle every day. And Tana is willingly giving them the space to do it. Don’t fall for the “we aren’t affiliated” line. Nobody believes politicians are hanging around there for free. Hosting this culture of insider politics says everything about their values.

I came here to post the same image of Jeff Landry that was shared via teamharveyfishing's instagram account. Looks like that account might be disabled now.

It's sad because I liked Gulotta's New Orleans spots.

I think NOLA/Teedy's shite broke the poor guy.

Literally, it looks like, given this move.

all of this is sad. We probably ate at Mopho 30 times at least, met Michael and ate and drank with him. He seemed down to earth and genuine

We didn’t like maypop, it just wasn’t our scene food or atmosphere wise. We’ve never been to Tana either where it is now or when it was on Tulane Ave. but mopho was our jam

Tana is at the corner of Metairie Rd and Causeway. A stone's throw from Gennaro's. That is just plain old Metry.

I hated Mofo but have been to Tana a few times. It's whatever. If he opens a private club and people want to pay $25k to look at the Causeway Overpass and a Puccino's, good for them.

This. The people going to the Blue Room are Guidrys and Landry’s buddies from around the state. MCC would never take Guidry so he needs somewhere to take his friends and feel special.

I haven't been to Tana, it seems overpriced for dining in fricking Metairie

However if people want to pay 25k for something like this good for them

There's a sucker born every minute

Yet another incorrect argument on TD about the boundaries of Old Metairie.

If it was in New Orleans, you’d be willing to pay the prices? Is this you associating Metairie with more chain restaurants, although this restaurant isn't a chain? I’ve been with the wife and had a good meal, albeit it was pretty pricey. We were drinking too though so that certainly added to the total. The portions were generous. We went for the food and the location on Metairie Rd wasn’t a factor into feeling we paid too much.

You can put the black and white street signs down Severn and beyond if that makes you feel better. You still live in plain ole Metry.
