SB 314 is a bill that will grant wineries the abilty to self distribute. There is an amendment to add local Louisiana breweries to this that should show up on monday.
This would be great for our state.

We urgently need everyone’s help. There is a bill – SB314 that is being heard in the Judiciary B Committee in the Louisiana Senate. Though it is a Louisiana wineries bill, there is an amendment attached that allows Louisiana’s craft breweries some self-distribution. The Louisiana Craft Brewers Guild has been working non-stop the last few weeks to get this amendment attached to this bill. The 30 plus brewing members of the LACBG would appreciate if you would email one of the committee members today, tomorrow, and throughout the weekend in support of SB314 and the Louisiana brewery amendment. Thanks y’all!

The beer lobby is lining up their dinner parties/plans with the politicians as we speak. They will not allow this to happen under any conditions.

3% chance this gets out of committee.

Living somewhere that already allows it.

If it makes you feel better, there’s no happy hour here. So I’m still getting the short end of the stick on antiquated liquor laws.

I flew to Boston about 15 years ago with my boss and of course we were staying at the Embassy Suites because of their free happy hour every evening. I was blown away when they told us they weren't allowed to do that.
Of course the GM recognized that our company does a lot of stays with their company so he brought us a few rounds.

There are plenty of bars here that do happy hours with craft beer.

I think the only chance is if the beer league supports it. And their is a chance they do,
1. They don’t want to deal with these tiny brewers making 1000 barrels a year, let them self distribute and then cherry pick the successful ones.
2. They don’t want to deal with these one off kegs. And hearing the brewers complain is getting old.
What they don’t want to happen is that it starts off at 3,000 barrels and grows to 20,000 barrels.

This. There is optimism that this could actually happen.
The brewer's guild wasn't even going to try for this initially, instead focusing on some smaller things like letting breweries pour beer outside of their roofline and silly stuff like that. But in meetings with the Beer League, they realized there's a chance of this actually getting through. I was told on Monday that there was some optimism, and by Wednesday they were feeling even better about it. There's still some negotiating to be done, and we'll know more next week.
Hopefully the Beer League recognizes that allowing for limited self distribution only helps breweries grow their brand to the point of needing the distributors at a certain point. The sheer number of tiny breweries that the distributors are having to deal with is only growing, and they're turning away breweries now.

It’s really a load of horseshite that they don’t do happy hour. But the restaurant lobby here is strong and they don’t want it.

Well that’s just patently false.

distributors make their money on bud light and they have for decades.
they don’t want to have to deal with gnarly barley and their 50 kegs of jucifer...
it’s small potatoes and always will be small potatoes.
let the breweries deal with one and two keg deliveries
I bet this gets approved
