I like both. Most people I know who dislike turkey, have never had one properly prepared and cooked to temp.

Problem with Turkey is that people tend to overcook it and because it is mostly breast it dries out because of the lack of fat in the breast.

Frying is a good way to lock in the moisture. But if you don't want the fire hazard and grease, etc. Use a roaster and then inject the frick out of the bird and then put a lot of butter under the skin. I also put a Satsuma and orange in the cavity along with onions peppers garlic and some chopped apples.

Cover the bottom of the pan with chicken stock and the slow roast at 325 at about 17 minutes per pound

But......a good baked ham is tastier...unsliced

Nope. Ham always has chewy bits of cartilage mixed in. Turkey you get consistent texture.

The flavor profile of ham might be better, though.

It was a couple of years ago that the grocery stores had the Hormel Cure 81 hams on sale for .89 a LB. Spiral sliced and had the seasoning packet. I would buy at least two... Those are the best tasting hams and made the house smell like heaven...

wild turkey > store turkey

porkbelly > bacon

okra > carrots

country ham (hanging in your basement a year or two) > city (processed) ham

squirrel (country) > possum

squirrel (city) = rat

There’s a reason why most people eat only turkey once a year…

Definitely.

But... Cook your ham like a boston butt.

I spray mine with pineapple juice, give it a light holiday rub. Replace garlic and onion powder in bbq rub with Added cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and a bit of ginger.

Then wrap and cook like a butt. Glaze at the end.

it would be my FIL's fried turkey. I look forward to that every year

My FIL made a kick arse fried turkey and I got him to show me before he died. I thought it would a secret or something different he did. He said shoot it up until it won’t take anymore and fry it at 350 3 minutes per pound. I’m not sure how so many people can frick that up.

Smoke a spiral ham and baste with a cherry/brown sugar/bourbon based glaze. I do this every year at Thanksgiving or Christmas and it is a big hit.
