Had Zaxby's for lunch...not sure why they even bothered to open

Place just officially opened on Highway 30 in Gonzales and the reception has been impressive. Packed parking lots and a line of cars that extends to the highway.
I had some time to kill so I decided to wait in the line and see how it compared to Cane's. Cane's is decent for fast food and okay in a pinch. Doesn't really impress me but not terrible either. It's fun to hate on because corporate was moved to Dallas, but such is life.
It took 30 minutes to get my food from the drive-thru. I would never wait that long for fast food, but had to for all of you who will read this post.
I missed breakfast and was starving, so I over-ordered. Got the chicken finger plate (4 fingers, slaw, toast, fries, and Diet Coke
) and also five traditional wings with the Tongue Torch sauce.
My total was $15.37, so about the same for a Box Combo from Cane's.
Got to my office and opened my box of wings. Tiny, tiny chicken wings. They were devoured in about 1-2 bites, as they were really so small. Decent flavor, but the sauce wasn't that hot, and I think it was the one just below their hottest sauce. Ranch dressing was placed with the wings in the same box, so it was nice and hot. Awful.
Now the chicken plate that rivals Cane's.
Chicken fingers - small, boring, and the batter on the fingers was okay but kind of had a dill pickle taste. Really not that great and Cane's fingers are better. Way better.
Fries - actually decent. Same crinkle-cut frozen fries but these were larger and seasoned. So not bad.
Slaw - I like cole slaw, and this is one I would skip. Boring unseasoned pieces of cabbage and carrots in a warm dressing
Toast - Not bad. Tasted about the same as Cane's but was a piece of bread, and not the Texas Toast style.
Sauce - Really the thing people remember Cane's for, and with Zaxby's it's a pretty band ripoff of Cane's sauce. Has about the same look but there was a sharp vinegar taste at the end. I wasn't really a fan.
The service was okay. Girl at the window was pleasant and quick with my food. She did however have her lips covered with cold sores, so I'm sure I'm infected with face herpes as I write this. Please do not be like me.
So there it is, my Zaxby's experience. I will not be returning and right now I am chugging water because I feel like I just French-kissed a salt lick.

I find zaxby's oily and Cane's flavorless. Both can be skipped.

both are really bad. At least Popeyes has flavor. But all in all, chicken fingers are for children

Yeah, it really did. Got in line at 11:35, didn't leave with my food until a little after noon. Excuse me if I rounded up the minute, but you're free to take a drive by the place. At 11:30 it was packed.
Hell, at 4:30 yesterday when I drove past it from the office it was even busier.

I didn't find it oily, but now after about 20 minutes I'm starting to feel pretty gross. Super salty.

cane's sauce is a better tasting ripoff of the Zaxby's sauce is more accurate.

I thought Cane's was accused of ripping off someone else...a Georgia-based place?

Yea I thought Canes copied Zaxbys and another place?
Anyways, the fries at Zaxbys were really the only improvement over canes, IMO.

Guthrie's is what I'm thinking of

Zaxbys sauce tastes like puke

Chicken is better than Cane's although smaller portions. Everything else I prefer Cane's.
Not worth 20 minute drive through wait.
This is an event in Gonzales though.

Their salads are good but the rest is pretty bland. It is chicken fingers though.

I would never wait 30 minutes for chicken fingers.
I think Cane's is the best of the bunch if thats saying anything, although I do like the sides at Popeyes. I also feel terrible and like I got hit by a sodium bomb 20 minutes after I eat Cane's so I've had to pretty much cut it out of my diet.
I would eat there once a week in my college/high school days.

yea, i was wrong, I meant Gunthrie's.
I didn't realize there was more than one ripoff.
