was very impressed with the quality and creativity of the dishes

I can't stress enough how good it all was. The whole deal is that they're farm-to-table so evidently they change the menu up frequently.

I'm won't rail on this joint except to say that they have a 20.00 hamburger. I think that speaks for itself.

That said, I appreciate the idea and effort and risk this place took. It doesn't help that that location is a little cursed.

Really cool atmosphere and delicious wings. Not too impressive cheese board. Very average burger that is priced at $19. Still like the place but there isn't really much on the menu to get me back there soon.

This absolutely nails it. I went three times just hoping for something to wow me because I wanted badly to love this place. It is right by my house. But I left each time thinking that maybe the next time it would be better. I quit trying. Frankly, I would love nothing more than to be able to go for an App and a couple of cocktails but their liquor prices mirror their burger prices. Throw me a bone and offer a drink special or something to draw me in and then convince me dinner is a good idea with something exciting on the menu. You know, the way every other restaurant does it.

It's hilarious that people are still opening restaurants with average food at ridiculous prices and expecting the public to come running with support because it's a new place. Who set the price of this apparently average-at-best $20 burger and though it would be a great idea? Well good luck to them. I"m not going. Thanks to the food and drink board for another honest review. Saves alot of us time and money.

Call them and tell them or link this thread. Hell the OT would have had the owners wife's bra size posted by now. Seriously - what you said it true and they need to know it so maybe they can adjust and not wait 8 months and die in debt.

Ive been to Table probably 5 times.. It has gotten better since it opened IMO.. The first couple times they seemed to be having some issues with to much salt and not cooking to temp correctly.. I enjoy the atmosphere and its close to home so I keep going and theyve tightened up some things.

Here is something you may want to read. Dr. Shipp knows more about Red Snapper populations in the Gulf than you or I do.
quote:

Dr. Bob Shipp is THE authority on Gulf of Mexico red snapper. He recently retired after serving the last 20 years as chairman of the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama, and he also served two nine-year stints on the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, the board responsible for making recommendations to NOAA Fisheries about how federal Gulf fisheries are to be managed. During his time on the council, Shipp served as chairman on three separate occasions.

quote:

The snapper stocks are stronger than they've ever been in history. Everybody who studies them and gets out on the water knows that. It's primarily because of all the habitat that's been created since the 1940s -- all the oil platforms along the Louisiana and Texas coasts as well as the artificial reefs. In Alabama, for instance, we have 17,000 artificial reefs off our coast that probably hold 20 to 25 million pounds of snapper, so the stocks are stronger than they've ever been in history.

This idea of rebuilding the stocks by the year 2032 is ludicrous. It's probably the worst-managed fishery in the United States, when you have a fishery that's so incredibly healthy, and yet you have a nine-day season for the recreational industry with devastating economic impacts on towns like Orange Beach, Destin and Panama City.

We kill hundreds of thousands of snapper every year because the season's closed and there are so many snapper there that you can't get through them. We took a research cruise this week. We were trying to get some amberjack to do some age analysis, and we couldn't get any amberjack fishing high in the water column with live bait. All we could get were red snapper.

This whole snapper management system is a train wreck. It's nobody's fault. It's just the way the Magnuson Act is worded. The Magnuson Act has got to be changed; otherwise, we're never going to come to a rational solution to this mess.

I posted a review a while back, and in summation, I did not like my meal at all. Had the pork shoulder. It tasted like pulled pork tossed in too vinegary bbq sauce. The greens were way too salty, and so was the mac and cheese. Really wanted to like the place, and it had a cool atmosphere, but the food was just plain bad.

I'm not saying we should start taking bets on how long this restaurant will last, but I have the feeling that most people in the area were hoping for more of neighborhood bar/restaurant feel and less of a high priced hipster foodie restaurant with a bar. But I'm just saying, by and large, the people that frequent that area seem to lean toward the neighborhood type joints and aren't hankering to spend their paychecks on a $22 half chicken.

I'm not saying there isn't a market for what they are doing, but perhaps it isn't large enough to support the restaurant, particularly if the food hipster type crowd find it lacking, comparatively speaking, and just decide to go elsewhere.

Boom! I didn't even need to step my foot in the door. Don't doubt the Langland.

Here's the thread Bug mentioned. LINK

I too went around that same time and thought it was not bad, but was a little overpriced. Pimm's cup was awesome, wings were good, burger was overdone, pork was a little dry. It was in June so maybe it's smoothed out now

The odd thing is.. Table is doing right what so many places are doing wrong. But doing wrong what others do right.

They have a really good-looking space with an atmosphere that has drawn me back in repeatedly hoping for something good. "Trendy" menus.. specialty cocktails.. all of the things so many restaurants should be doing in BR to attract crowds. But their food just doesn't match up. Look at the menu.. a chicken, a pork, a lamb, a pasta, a vegetable, a steak, a catfish. Most of them in the ~$20 range.

Only a few apps, and most are pretty standard (deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, salads).

Bin 77 is a good example of what Table should be doing. They have large variety of really interesting dishes you can't get just anywhere in BR. And they're executed really well. On top of that, they have a good atmosphere. I've been 3 times in the past few months and had to wait 30+ minutes each time due to this.

You're are probably right. But unless Table is willing to abandon their authentic, regional, farm to table, local resources concept, I wouldn't expect too much movement in the direction of Bin 77.

And just to be clear, I'm not saying Table is done. I don't know that. I was just saying, based on a review of a person that lives in the neighborhood, that the concept isn't the best match for that area. But they are in a busy and popular area for restaurants, so they might be doing well as far as I know. I'm just saying, a review from a person that lives in the neighborhood carries a lot of weight, since that is where 80% of a restaurant's business comes from, and the review reflected what I originally thought of the concept.

The OB is more civil than this board for the most part.

On the other hand, lots of people here know pretty much everything.

We've gone twice. First time we all enjoyed it. Second time around, not as much. The food was just average. The special that night was a ribeye and as soon as the waiter read the specials, the guy at the table next to ours leaned over and told us not to get the ribeye b/c it was a "shitty cut of meat and not worth the money." (I don't recall the exact price but I feel like it was close to $40). Needless to say, we avoided the steak.

Also, the acoustics in there are terrible. It's really really loud.

Must have been around the time I went to try it out. My SO and I went to check the place out a few months ago. We figured we'd sit at a high top near the bar and grab some drinks and apps. I usually don't give 2 shits about service, but it annoyed the crap out me that our server pushed the hell out of the "steak special" for the night after I told her we just wanted a couple of apps. Out of curiousity I asked how much. Pretty sure it was in the 40's. I had a hard time not laughing in her face. I love the idea of using as many local products as possible, but you can't just grill up a piece of meat, serve it with some mac n cheese and greens, and put a $40 price on it. Menu was not exciting at all to be charging those prices. Good luck though
