I swear im the only person in LA that feels this way but I can not bring myself to enjoy a soft-shell crab
I am right there with you, I really want to like them, and I will eat them , but just not something I really enjoy like so many other people

The only part would be the shell because the "face" and gills/lungs are removed.
Now, I might feel like you do if they aren't battered. The legs might be off-putting.
yeah i realize im in the minority here. I a little FOMO when i hear people talking about soft shells. I want to like them but just cant

That’s me as well. I love the idea of them and think they look so good on sandwiches and whatnot. But the idea is always better than the reality for me.
Every now and then, I order them just to see if maybe I’ve changed.

Do you ever order Amaebi (or just ebi) sweet, and raw, shrimp at the sushi joint? It comes with the fried head. It’s absolutely not soft shelled, but the concept of eating something a bit strange is. The raw shrimp is one of my favorite bites of sushi, but it’s the first thing you have to eat...because if it loses the chill it can be super funky.

Did some last week. Sprinkled with mix of butter and Mongolian for oil and were damn good.

I’ll bet that basting sauce that Drago’s uses and also sells would be damn good on softshell crabs.

I haven’t seen anyone around here eat Royal Reds raw, but ebi makes me think it’s worth a shot if I ever see them in great condition.

I bet it would!
The one I dreamed up in OP had a near BBQ shrimp flavor and was really tasty. Lots of ways to experiment with this one. Just getting started on that trip

I love them but have had some that are kinda heavy on the “juice” the orange/yellow stuff, and/or a pretty strong seafood taste that I could understand some not liking although I still like it. I never know if I’d done something wrong on the prep or if that’s just how they are.

Has anyone seen them in Baton Rouge lately?? Specifically in the 70808 area. Not interested in driving to Tony’s or out to Gonzales.
