Griddle

Wife is wanting a Blackstone for Christmas but I’m thinking we won’t get a lot of use out of it as we usually cook on a charcoal pit. Is there a komodo type grill with a griddle insert that anyone has used? Thinking this may be the route to go but not sure about how well a griddle would work in this type of set up.

I am in the process of building an outside kitchen and will ditch the gas grill for a griddle. Keeping the small egg and getting a 36” toastmaster or other commercial gas griddle. Will also have a smoker. Pretty much everything I grill could be done on a griddle and not have to worry about flare ups.

Do you have a Weber? if so you can get a a griddle top for it that goes in place of the cooking grate. If not there are companies that make rectangular griddle sheets you place on top of whatever grill or heat element you wish.

Tractor supply has a 36" on sale for $199, go get it.

I had a 36" Blackstone a few years back and sold it after about 9 months. Used the shite out of it for 3 months, then it sat on my back patio for 6 months.
It is a cool concept, but once the new wore off of it, I didn't use it much. There are much easier options to use a griddle surface. I have a nice double burner griddle plate I can put on my indoor gas range, and I use it at least once a week. Much easier than hauling out the Blackstone. I also have a griddle that can sit on the grates of my BBQ pit, but rarely use it.
The Blackstone takes up a lot of room and is a one trick pony. Just my $0.02

Interesting choice of words since there are so many differnet things that can be cooked on it.

Why would you need to "haul it out". Mine sits on my deck along with a 40" grill and a smoker. When I want to cook on it it's right there. French toast and sausage tomorrow morning on it for tailgating.

Any body use a griddle plate on their gas grill?

Who is going to be using the griddle?
A Blackstone is very easy to use, very easy to clean, has a spot for the grease to go, can easily change the temperature.

You can cook "so many different things" on just about any cooking appliance. I was referring to the fact that you can use a grate-top griddle and then still be able to use it as a stove top or grill, whereas all the Blackstone is is a griddle.
As far as "hauling it out," it might be a slight exaggeration. Mine was on wheels but with the 3 foot surface plus shelves on each side, it took up a ton of room on my patio. For the little I used it, it wasn't worth it to me to keep it.
To each his own, I am not doubting how good of a cooker it is. I use a Rocky Mountain Cookware double burner lift off griddle and make damn fine French Toast & sausage as well.

I do for about 10 years now on my weber gas grill. I have a lodge cast iron double sided griddle I use. A much cheaper option is the Acadmey cast iron griddle.
