and will turn it into pickleball courts with Ozzie Fernandez of Lit Pizza and Izzo fame handling the food

That actually might work for that property

Pickleball courts seem like a great idea. I just don't think the pickleball and food combo is a smart business move for the food side. I have no interest in dining at a pickleball facility.

Love me some tacos. If I have to go to a gym to get them, then so be it.

What kind of Tacos will the Pickle Ball Place sell?

I wonder if they keep the volleyball too, or just convert it to pickleball.

I thought pickleball was a game old people played.

This fact should bolster their business exponentially

Don’t tell the people at Top Golf.

Right. Same thing exactly. Swing a club a couple times a sit and eat. Vs. Playing pickleball that has no rest periods.

You have this well thought out. Why didn’t you buy in to this idiotic idea?

No rest periods? You're thinking of tennis, not pickleball.

They can boost business by hosting leagues, tournaments, etc. Pickleball is a very social sport played by people who want to socialize, but aren't necessarily athletes. The opportunity to eat and drink after or during play may go over well for them. The food and atmosphere needs to be good because they will go eat and drink elsewhere if not.

I think the pickleball is a good idea and to bring in more money, of course sell food and drinks.

What I don’t see happening is a restaurant flourishing on its own without the pickleball aspect like the Shed tried. I don’t see people who aren’t playing pickleball going for dinner.

But with restaurants like Lit and Izzos, maybe Ozzie is the right man for that.

Yea, someone should tell Red Lerille that it's a dumb idea to have food in the gym. That's probably why no one ever goes.

The Chicken and Pickle franchises are exploding in Texas, Missouri and other mid west states. They are printing money.

If the food is good enough, and the atmosphere is good enough, I would think they would be able to attract from two different crowds: the pickleballers and the people who just want to go eat at a sports bar. Maybe neither group can support the place by themselves, but together, they might do okay.

If worst comes to worst, they can scrap the restaurant part of it and just be an indoor pickleball club with a weight room and a snack bar. Those are getting more and more popular.

Pickleball is getting really popular. Baton Rouge gets really hot in the summers, so I would hope some courts are indoors or at least covered.

With commercial kitchens on site, you could offer catering for large events, fundraisers, and even kid field trips. Pickleball doesn't have to be the only offering.

As someone mentioned, you can't walk to campus on game days, but you could certainly pregame and park there if shuttle buses were available. Post game for a couple hours until the taraffic gets better.

Gordon has his hand in a lot of things. He doesn't appear as someone that loses money. I would rather this succeed than watch it become blighted and abandoned.
