Got the envie for a sauce piquant. Best place for good turtle meat?
Yeah, I know there is a food and drink board, but I think the baws of the OT usually know best.

Tony's Seafood in BR has turtle meat. Is there a place like that in NOLA?

circle food store used to always have it, if it’s open they still might.

I wonder if Chris Specialty Meats has it

From a recent article in the local paper, Circle Food Store is having trouble keeping simple, everyday items on their shelves so I doubt seriously you'll find any turtle meat there.
I'd call local seafood markets to see if they have any, and if so, it's likely going to be frozen and not fresh.

Choupique is the ultimate turtle bait.

Check out recipes for Mock Turtle Soup and save yourself a ton of headaches trying to track down turtle meat, plus a ton of money since turtle meat is VERY expensive to buy from a market.
There are tons of recipes on the net.

I've cooked mock turtle soup. It's easy to make with reasonable cost and delicious.

Dennis's Seafood off of West esplanade in Metairie used to have it. Frozen 2 lb packs - $25 for boneless, $12.50 for meat and bones. It's been several years since I went there.

Chris' in Lakeview definitely has it. Deanie's in Bucktown sometimes has it in the freezer section. Just call them.

If that's the place on Harrison by the Pontchartrain Expwy. they are real proud of their stuff. I'd hate to think what turtle meat would cost in that place.
Wife and I stopped there once a while back and got a couple small things and saw they had cracklin' and I asked the price. Works out to $30 a lb. since he told me $7.50 a quarter pound. That's totally insane for fried pork fat.

Circle foods is closed. I have purchased turtle meat in the past from Dorignac's Grocery Store in Metairie.

Yeah, according to the article about the store in the Times Picayune a month or so ago, they were obviously going belly up. Seems there's a lot of infighting going on between the folks who were running the place and money missing, lawsuits filed------basically a fuster cluck.

It's just because for all the good food floating around Nola, his type of shop is kind of one-of-a-kind. There's The Gourmet Butcher Block on the West Bank but really that's about it.

I got a duck from this guy. He's a character in the 9th ward. Ive been meaning to get frog legs or something else., It seems a lot of this is from a distributor so not what I consider to be real "game". It was a very large duck for 35 bucks that made a damn excellent gumbo with andouille, after having several good portions of delicious meat.

I was in Rouses on Vets earlier today and they have turtle meat in their freezer in the seafood section of the store----at $19.99 a lb.
