Anyone know where I can buy peeled/shelled pecans in metro New Orleans area?
I need to make pecan pies for next week and don't want to get crap pecans from the store.

Go to Rouse’s. Look for Bergeron’s pecans. They come from New Roads, LA.

Rouses or Costco. Costco would be cheaper, but not by much since a 2 lb. bag there is just over $14 and a 12 oz. bag at Rouses is around $7 or so last time I looked.
Like already posted, Bergeron is a La. company and I like to support local and state companies when I can.

Probably not, Seems they export all the good homegrown nuts to china and import all the little ones from South America to sell here

I was just in Rouses a couple days ago and they have pecans from Bergeron there-----at least that's what the package said.

Do you have proof of this?

Doesn't the bag have to state the country of origin?

Bergeron's imports nuts from South America and puts their label on the packaging?

bergerons pecans are marketed as 100% domestic pecans. they do source pecans from many other orchards statewide (and probably other states as well) and shell/sell those in addition to their own home-grown
it clearly says "product of US" on the bag

A vendor gives a box of Bergeron pecans every year. They are good.

I have no knowledge of Bergeron's and am sure they are an up and up company.
I do know that the overseas market for pecans is exploding and most pecan companies can get more by exporting a premium nut than they can get in the USA.
Many good sources no longer sell to the public. There are huge orchards (Smith Pecans) south of Raymond, MS that were purchased by Bass Pecans. Two years later and they no longer sell to the public. All the nuts they produce are now exported to Europe. Bass has thousands of trees in Texas - all of the Texas crop is also going to Europe and Asia.
I also know that nuts are shipped all over the country, and in and out of the country. It isn't difficult to purchase pecans that have changed distributors multiple times. it would be very easy to change the country of origin if that is your desire.
Honestly, I have no idea why most of Mississippi is not one great big pecan orchard. There is an active world wide market for every American pecan produced and the climate in most of Mississippi Northern LA, much of Texas, Alabama and Georgia is perfect. You must have equipment - high pressure (tree height) sprayers and tree shakers to work your orchard, but once the trees start producing, they continue producing for years.

nobody said that pecans dont get exported, they clearly do and its not a secret. what the choad who made the post said is that a local company is importing pecans and selling them as domestic, which is patently false
mexico (not south america) does produce a shite-ton of pecans, and they likely do get imported into the US, but not by bergerons, or anyone else, without disclosure
