I know this sounds crazy, but what I remember about Pho Tau Bay is hearing a karaoke version of Oran 'Juice' Jones "The Rain"...you just can't make that up.

But I'm happy to try Lebanon's for sure...that does sound incredibly reasonable - damn near Denny's prices!

I respectfully disagree, especially if you're going for atmosphere.

With that said, Eleven79 is a great restaurant and doesn't get enough attention on this board.

Meh. It's planted firmly on top of my overrated New Orleans restaurants list. Big prices. Unimaginative menu.

Anybody that said Irene's is dead on. One of the best meals I've ever had.

irenes is not in the top ten in the city by anyone account. It's good but come on. Furthermore it's far from the arena.

It might not be top 10, but it definitely falls into most people's top 15.

No. You're probably right about that. I would never put Irene's on a top 10 list on just food. But that's not what the original poster was asking about. He wanted a place with an intimate setting for he and his wife/girlfriend. I think Irene's is spot on, although I admit I wasn't thinking about the geography issue (i.e., proximity to the arena).

But I could easily think of a handful of places in the city that are better, IMO, than Irene's judged solely on the menu.

Stella
August
Cuvee
MIla
Bayona
La Boca (I realize some would disagree here)
Pelican Club
Luke
CP (I'll fight anyone who leaves it off the list)

i thought that Chris Paul opened a joint, still thinking about the game last night.

I just can't think of Commander's as intimate, but probably b/c one of my friends is always working front of the house. I can't consider anywhere with his crazy arse watching me to be intimate.

you would consider Commander's to be intimate? with few exceptions, i just don't see it at all. Great food? yes. Intimate? No.

No....he was essentially listing a top ten for food. Irene's is top 10 intimate...but I pretty sure it would not fall in my top 20 for restaurants in the city. It's in the 20-30 overall. There are simply too many better places here.

yeh...intimate I think Irene's, Le Crepe, Degas, Upperline, Cuvee, Maple Street, and Rick's Caberet lunch buffet.

Brock, we ate Lebanon's again last night...we spent $22, had a great meal, and brought home a bunch of leftovers.

I know we're completely off-topic, but the only one I would have disagreed with you on was Luke. I'd put Gautreau's in its place.
