Why didn't you return it?
Followed by a call to the LA Dept of Health.
This is the correct answer. To OP, where did this bait and switch seafood come from?

Yea, where did this happen to you? If they're going to hustle a guy who called in and went through the trouble you did then they're doing it to others.

I would much rather a seafood market tell me they don't have any and offer me another product than lie to my face and tell me this shite I am buying is from Vensulaya. Just bought $300 worth of crap. The mgr swears it is from their plant in chalmette, and they had to put it in different containers because the ice broke the lids. Get home and figure out it is from Vensulaya, call him back and he says sorry for the misunderstanding.
I hate Vensulaya crab meat too.

TigerPaw123,
My family has been in the Seafood Industry for over three decades. We proudly sell to many restaurants, distributors, markets, and grocers throughout the Southeast region such as Rouses Supermarkets, Tony’s Seafood in Baton Rouge, Joe Patti’s in Florida, etc. We’ve gained these customers through honest business practices and it was never my intention to mislead you, especially a customer that frequents our place as much as you do and the amount of business you do with us. I’m not just the manager; I’m the owner as well. I care about my community, customers, and those I’ve come to know in my time of being an Ascension Parish resident.
There are a bit of details that have been misconstrued, and I’d appreciate the opportunity to speak with you either via phone or in person to resolve our “misunderstanding.” I’m sorry if your transaction seemed impulsive; business has not slowed down as I am still working at the store right now. I can understand your frustration and disappointment. As a business professional, I’d prefer to keep our conversation between us. However, I do feel I owe our fellow posters some clarification: Out of the 11 pounds of crabmeat you purchased, only (2) were re-packaged. The other (9) were clearly and completely color labeled and printed with origin, nutrition information, brand identity (Clipper Ship), etc. This brand has neither been frozen nor pasteurized. It is flown in three times a week FRESH, and guaranteed 10-14 days upon date of arrival. Upon questioning, I informed you that the other brand of crabmeat (Bayou Blues) is pasteurized and you can tell the difference with Bayou Blues having an aluminum seal. This is our brand, processed and pasteurized at our plant in Lake Pontchartrain and carried in every single Rouses supermarket. Yes, we do have a seafood dock in Bayou Bienvenue as well.
While speaking with you on the phone yesterday evening, I even offered to have one of my drivers haul our crabmeat up early in the morning and replace what you had purchased. Although I am disheartened to be publicly made someone that I am not, I’m more concerned with a valued customer feeling swindled. I hope you understand where I’m coming from, as I am truly empathetic towards your issue. There is still much more I would like to discuss and trust you’ll give me the chance.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Venezuelan crabmeat does not taste that much different than our crabmeat except ours usually have more fat in it and is a little fresher. Venezuelan crabmeat comes from blue crabs just like ours.
I do prefer our crabmeat and anything local when available but there are times when there isn't much local crabs around (winter time and the holidays) and the Venezuelan is a suitable replacement in that case. Fresh venezuelans is way better than than pasteurized and better than any of that stuff from China and Indonesia.

Sounds more like some kind of miss-communication than an underhanded swith-aroo.

Well, first I would like to thank Cdelau for going the extra mile in contacting me and rectifying this situation. He has truly gone above and beyond in contacting me and making it right, thanx
As for the crabmeat, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be, it was not as good as fresh La product but not bad. The Jumbo lump was good, not as sweet or as much fat but a good texture and a good taste, the back fin was good as well and surprisingly clean of shell. The claw meat, I was not impressed with at all, it had a texture of almost ground meat
So again I am pleased with the professionalism and the desire to make it right, so I will return, however, I will also thourghly inspect my purchase before leaving any seafood market in the future as that is my lesson learned.

I would be pissed if I had crabs from Valencia as well.

So I'm curious, in your original post you said it was all from Venezuela and was crap but in the note from the market he gave a different version. Which version is correct?

I didn't know Fernando Valenzuala was in the crab business.

Reread his post he never denied the crabmeat was from Venezuela, it was all from Venezuela. I said it was crap, and after cooking and eating it, I admit it was not as crapy as I thought it was going to be, but not as good as fresh La product

So two were Valenzuelan but were packaged in Bayou Blues' containers?
