The mgr swears it is from their plant in chalmette, and they had to put it in different containers because the ice broke the lids. Get home and figure out it is from Vensulaya, call him back and he says sorry for the misunderstanding.
The majority of the product that was labeled, what info does the labeling give as far as where it is packaged?

I'm confused. Did you ask for fresh Gulf/LA crabmeat or just fresh crabmeat? I'm always specific when I order crabmeat to make sure I get LA if that's what I want. I've had some Mexican jumbo lump, but it was Gulf. I think it was from Central Market in Fort Worth. It was good, but not as sweet as ours. No other problems with it. The jumbo lumps were quite large.

Wow this really is confusing, hence my problem from the get go. I was very specific about wanting fresh crab and not pasteurized, he had 2 products, one was pasteurized la crabmeat, that he explains to me is from bayou bienvineue etc etc, and shows how it is packaged differently from the fresh. Turns out the pasteurized is from louisiana and the fresh is from venzuilia . When I placed my order on the phone a few days earlier I was specific about wanting fresh gulf crab.

How did I find out? Again when I got home the styrofoam ice chest provided had labeling indicating it was originally used for Venzuilian crab meat, I called and said it was. Upon further close inspection most of the containers stated in very small print the orgin

Interesting that the LA crabmeat is pasteurized and the fresh comes from another country. Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not in the seafood business. I can't stand pasteurized crabmeat and, yes, I can tell when it is. I will go without before using it.

A caterer used some pasteurized claws at a party I was having. I'd never heard of pasteurized at the time. I took a bite of one claw and told her there was a problem with them. They were slimy or something. That's when she told me she couldn't find good claws fresh and used the pasteurized. I didn't pay for it.

Okay I was just curious. I hate it when they put it in small print but it does make me read all the packaging on seafood I buy so I know what I am getting. I always buy La or at least US seafood when possible.
