My garage freezer wasn't closed all the way for three days. I noticed when I walked by it today. The freezer is full of deer meat.

I opened it up, and there was still ice and frost in it; however, there were numerous packages of deer meat that were thawed out. They were really cold, but not frozen. Most of the other packages were still frozen.

In your opinion, should I just toss the ones that were cold but not frozen? I did separate them so I know which ones they were.

I personally would just cook the thawed stuff and freeze what you make.

Are they re-frozen now?

I made a big pot of it yesterday. The freezer is crap and doesn't seal well so it didn't close all the way when I pulled the ground meat out.

I can definitely cook some more stuff up though. Some of it was ground meat and some of it was backstrap.

They will be by the time I get back home I should have placed them in the refrigerator but I just put them on the top rack in the freezer.

ETA - I just had the Mrs. move the thawed meat to the refrigerator, and I'll cook up some stuff throughout the week. Appreciate the input!

I'd just refreeze it. I've done this plenty of times with no issues.

I know that you’ve already dealt with this problem, but in future, if it’s still cold, just refreeze it. Loss of texture quality is all that will happen. Now if it’s warm, nah

You don’t have to throw anything out. Just refreeze. If it would have been weeks at a thawed out temperature then maybe, I still wouldnt. Three days is nothing.

That happened to me..... I took all the stuff that partially froze, dried it off and stuck it back in the freezer. That was about 6 years ago and I'm still here.

After a similar incident, I put a self-adhesive Velcro strap on mine and use it every time I close it.
