Thank yall for your responses. I didn’t want to ask a leading question, but it’s funny to hear they travel with their pots and pans, because that’s exactly what I was thinking.

Was some chili with seafood mash up.

I've traveled extensively for work for a long time. The food/ restaurant scene is not nearly as bad as it was 20+ years ago. You're still not going to find anything worth a shite to eat in Independence Kansas or Pine Bluff AR. But most sizable cities will have some place putting out at least passable fare. Places like Asheville, Charleston, Savannah and the like have really stepped up their game the last couple decades. Even towns like Hattiesburg, Mobile, Pensacola etc...

How can they not? Blows mind that many cant. Internet will give you everything you need, and most so called cajun dishes are simple ingrediants.

Even along the coast in MS, they can screw up a simple po boy. How do you do that? If its not a po boy then call it something else

No doubt about it. I used to poo poo the “elevated dining experience”. But everyone I’ve been to where I could talk to the chef and got the idea he wasn’t full of it, then I just ask them to make their best courses possible…never fails to be amazing.

Not from Louisiana, but I did live in Baton Rouge once and have spent time on the Gulf Coast. I live in Atlanta now. You can find any cuisine you want in metro Atlanta, especially various Latin and Asian cuisines, but also middle eastern and African.

I go to lunch with firends once a month and we've been doing this for 4 years now. Never been to the same restaurant twice and we have only been to one place that serves food common in Louisiana -- you just can't find good examples of it though you can find most everything else.

The place, which I have mentioned before, is the Po Boy Shop in Decautur. It's one of my favorite places to eat in metro Atlanta and I've never had a bad meal there. My boss, born and raised in New Orleans, swears by it too.

I grew up in south Louisiana, but my parents cooked a decent variety of things. Nothing wild, but like spaghetti, pot pie, pot roast, baked chicken, pork chops, steaks, BBQ chicken, etc.

I have a friend from Lafayette and a friend from Ville Platte, and both of them grew up in households that ate rice and gravy every single night. Their parents still do it to this day.

Preciate everyone replying to this thread.

If someone checks this, my next question is…

Where are the best blues places along the coast? Always wanted to check one out

I moved away from Louisiana a long time ago.

If I want Cajun food, I cook it at home. Wherever I go, I can find something they are good at.

If you go, know that there is a bar downstairs with a much, much bigger and nicer dining area and lots of TVs. Go down there to dine or drink -- or park behind the building and enter via the bar.

That's a shame. The clam chowder I had at fisherman's wharf was the best I ever had. Can't remember the name of the restaurant. I'm sure my wife has it pinned.

Leaving South Louisiana to eat seafood in another state is like leaving the Playboy Mansion to look for a date.

Just got back from the Oregon coast. The seafood was all extremely fresh, but lacked in the seasoning department at times where it could use it. My wife said it was the best dungeness crab she's ever had though.

I went. It was really good. By far the best I’ve had away from LA.
