This put Blue Bell to shame.

Potato Sticks are still in the stores.

I miss Quickkick, The Kraft Spaghetti mentioned above, Blue Plate BBQ Sauce (although I can mailorder from a commercial distributor-not in retail stores)BBQ Beef sandwiches on a bun from Pak A Sack; Swanson Macaroni and Cheese in a can.

Burger Chef, Shakeys Pizza, Lumms Boiled in Beer Hot Dog's, Wesley's chopped beef (next to Broadmoor Theater) and Miss Fannies Carbonara from the original Village.

A great dry aged medium rare ribeye from Jack Sabins.

Kung Pao Chicken from the old Chinese Inn on Airline.

A Jack Daniels and Coke from the original Southdowns with Bonnie, Lisa or Doug making it.

I could probably name another dozen.

That place had some of the coolest giveaways when I was a kid, especially 45rpm records with Burger Chef and Jeff. Fun Meals were the shite.

I also remember Red Barn, whose mascot was a rip off of Ernie the Muppet. LINK

I was amazed when I discovered that Dog n Suds still has locations open. The truckers used to call them Arf n Barf back in the CB days.

This is a good example of selective memory.

K&B ice cream, while arguably decent, was nothing special at all.

I'll give you that, and raise you the egg rolls from the old Chinese Inn on Fla Blvd., near BR General.

I will call that with the Pu Pu platter from the old Chinese Inn on Greenwell Springs.

Also the Taxaco or Margaritas from the old La Fonda's, on Airline, before the old lady passed away. They have had like 5 new owners in the past 15 years and they have run it into the ground. That place used to be THE PLACE to eat on a Friday night.

I used to save up my allowance so I could ride my bike to the K&B for one of those.

Place was good too.

BR used to have a really decent assortment of old school type Chinese places. I think they were all owned by branches of the same family (RoarRestored is real up on this, as it's one of his big cause celebres).

Sad how there's no longer one decent such place.

Wow. Hi-C Ecto Cooler. I haven't thought about that stuff in years. I used to freeze it, cut the top off and eat it with a spoon. Loved it.

Oh my love for the Big-O, amazing fries, and super awesome milk shakes. About a year or two ago I was out in Donaldsonville by the Sunshine bridge and I needed gas. So I stop at a Shell gas station on the east side of the river, and low and behold there's the one and only remaining Fast Track attached to it. It is still there to this day. They still have and serve everything from the old menu. Your welcome, your welcome. Feast my BR brethren.

Will be back in Louisiana for the weekend. Driving my way down to Donaldsonville!!!!

It's more or less in Convent which is the East side of the sunshine bridge. It's near Shell Motiva. It's part of a truck stop. If you are headed west on hwy 70, it will be on your right. It may or may not be a Shell gas station. Good luck and feast plenty.

They beat the s**t out of Taco Bell.

A bean burrito from Del Taco actually weighs around 8 oz, vs the eggroll sized offering from the local TB.

China House on the corner of Greenwell Springs and Foster. Martini, the owners of Pastime were the owners of the Wesleys in Baton Rouge. I used to go to the Wesleys in the Rebel Shopping Center. Also, Hardees bought out Burger Chef. We have a ton of Hardees here in Montgomery. Actually, their thick burgers are pretty decent.
