Let me see if I remember how to post pics.

Let's start of with Pho. One of the few times I ate it. I felt like I got the tourist treatment with the price ($1.75). BTW, bean sprouts were not offered on the plate of veggies. Lettuce was offered instead. Pretty good.

Pork intestine porridge/congee. I was told that this was a high risk for a toilet trip. What the hell, right? I loved it as a breakfast item. Contained blood cake, liver, kidney, heart, tongue, pork intestine. 65 cents.

After that, I tried Banh Beo

Small, chewy tapioca cakes. She added some gravy on top of it. Then you would add the fish sauce with garlic, pepper, lemon. The fish sauce make the difference. Around 15 cents each.

Washed it all down with fresh squeezed sugar cane juice. Incredibly cheap at 25 cents a glass.

BTW, I prefer eating and hanging out at local places over tourist areas. Better feel of everyday life. And it's always fun to listen into people's conversation while you eat.

This is a pic of a place called "Co Ba Banh Xeo" from google since I forgot to take one of it.

Here's what we got. The combo plate with two banh xeo(beef, shrimp), fried egg rolls, pork belly, vermicelli cake, pork paste on a stick.

It comes with side of veggies and you would just get rice paper, wrap whatever you like, and dip it in a peanut or fish sauce. Around $6 with 2 drinks. Enough for 2 people.

"Saffron" chicken rice. Also comes with a bowl of vegetable soup. Chicken is crispy and it goes well with the dipping sauce. Around $3 per plate. A little expensive for Vietnam standard.

Same rice place except with shredded with meat.

On a side note, there's no tipping or taxes with the food. What you see is what you pay. However, the restaurant/food shop will charge you for things like wet napkins in packets or a plate of peanuts that looks like it's suppose to be complementary for the guess. Still cheap but lesson learned.

This is a google pic(forgot to take one) of the famous Banh Mi Phuong in Hoi An (from Anthony Bourdain's no reservation). Don't even bother with it. You're going to wait 20 mins and you'll have to deal with tourists pushing/cutting in line. The banh mi is ok but not worth the trouble. The banh mi I had in Nha Trang puts this one to shame.

Hey, pete. Your earlier threads on this helped out when I was over in Vietnam last spring.

Bo kho and banh bot loc.

Bun cha

Pig brain with lemongrass

Silk worms

Duck egg embryo. Better than it sounds.

I was a little drunk. Don't remember what this was exactly. I think pork.

Variety of seafood

Kid taunting the other shrimp

Making some banh xeo. This got rolled up in rice paper with fresh herbs. I liked this version better than the southern version, which was much larger and you used the greens to wrap up slices of it.

Will add more pics tomorrow.

When I was in Vietnam, they would serve some kind of red peppers in oil in a bowl on the side. Anyone have any idea what that was called and what kind of peppers?

I think it's called "Ot Sa Te."

ETA: usually made from Thai Bird's eye Chili.

Well, I'm not eating silk worms or duck embryos, but how does this taste:
