I’ll be about 10 miles from Buford Highway. Family lives by Mount Vernon/Vermack. What are some of the good restaurants on Buford?
Nam Phuong is excellent for Vietnamese and Pho Bac would be 2nd. Yet Tuh is a good Korean spot just OTP and Hae Woon Dae is great Korean bbq with actual coals.

Shoya Izakaya for Japanese
Pho Dai Loi #2 for Pho
Lee's Bakery for Bahn Mi
Sweet Hut for some sweet treats
El Rey Del Taco for taco's
A lot of others but those are some good ones.
If you want Korean BBQ go to Duluth.

I prefer El Taco Veloz, but El Rey is good too.
Taqueria la Carreta is fantastic as well. It's on BuHi between North Druid Hills Rd and Clairmont Rd.

This doesn't really answer the OP's specific request since I doubt he'll drive to it, but in "downtown" Duluth, there is a pizza joint called O4W Pizza. We discovered it a few months ago and it is now Top 2 in the metro area for me when it comes to pizza. Really it's 1A and 1B with Antico because they are different from each other and would each fulfill specific desires.

Yeah I liked it when it was right by Krog Market. Was my favorite pizza place honestly. Sucks they moved so far away from me.

Is that the place where you order at the counter then hover and fight for a place to sit?
I don't say that as a criticism. Just a way to describe the place.
Great pizza if that is the place.

Probably. The original location has a bunch of long tables for communal seating. I haven't been to the one at the Battery or the one in the burbs (Alpharetta?)

Yes. They have locations out at Avalon and the Battery now too, so the crowds are not as bad anymore.

I had no idea there was one by Krog. I guess that explains the name (we were trying to figure that out when we went).
There is an "Antico-like" place in Krog market now that's really good as well. Varuni Napoli I think.

If you are in Dunwoody/Mount Vernon, Com Vietnamese is quite good.

There's one (not sure if same owners but it does have the same name) on BuHi as well. Good stuff.

Good to see that is still a respected place. It was my go-to for a nice dinner when I lived in Atlanta years ago.

Would definitely do Gunshow if you can get a reservation
I liked the General Muir a lot when I lived in ATL, and it's just north of Va Highlands. Always makes food shows for its "Jewish deli" offerings, but I preferred to eat dinner there. Much more low key than brunch/lunch, and they do a fairly limited menu very well. They also have a small take out counter that serves sandwiches/coffee/bagels and a bakery next door
Downtown Decatur won't be too far from you. Kimball House is probably my favorite restaurant there
Ponce and Krog Street Markets are cool. Krog is a little more out of the way but should be less crowded

They are only like a mile and a half apart from each other.

Meant more nestled in a neighborhood vs. right on Ponce/the beltline
ETA: poor choice of words on my part given the size of the metro area and their proximity to each other
