Huh? How are your hands getting close to them when you pour ice over them? You also can add water to the ice and that’ll put them to sleep fast. Drain and pour into pot.
Looks great though. Wish I had some.

How much did the basket cost you?
$50 but I literally stopped on side the road and hit up some good ole baws who were emptying commercial traps . Got about 40 crabs for that

I add some celery salt to my crab boil. Boil them till they float soak and soak them till they sink.
Where did you go that you struck out fishing?

Steam them.
Zero chance steamed crabs taste better than boiled.

Ice them before you drop them in the pot. dont skip this. much lower chance of them popping legs and claws off.
This is something I’ve never heard for some reason. Nice tip.

Ever had them properly steamed? Shrimp are better with that technique too.

I find there's less of a chance to have waterlogged crabs if steamed instead of boiled. I cannot stand waterlogged crabs.

It's flavor. Once you pop the shell open there's no more water. frick steam throw them on the grill. At least you'll get smoke flavor in the meat.

WTF would I want properly steamed seafood when boiled seafood is infinitely better?

I'll take that as a "no."

I lived up in yankee country for several years where steaming was the thing to do.
i have yet to have a steamed crab better than a good boiled crab.

Then we just disagree. I grew up eating shrimp and crabs the Gulf coast way, boiled. Then I married a Maryland girl and came to prefer both steamed and with Old Bay. It's not that they are bad boiled, but I'd rather have them steamed according to the method on the Old Bay can. Doesn't have to be Old Bay, Wye River will work too.

Lmao. The equivalent of pouring crawfish boil powder over cooked crabs. There's no flavor in the meat, only on the shell. That's smart.
People that put seafood boil on crawfish after they done in an ice chest is the same thing. What's the point of that? Powder don't go through shells. Hey we agree to disagree. You eat steamed, I'll eat flavorful

don’t know if these were just really fresh but I’ve never had meat exit crabs as easily as these did. I did throw in a lil vinegar but doubt that made much a difference. Family was very satisfied and I ate myself stupid with these crabs. they were delicious
Freshness absolutely makes a difference, especially in texture of the meat. I did the same yesterday and after I was stuffed, we picked the remaining and vacuum sealed the meat for crab cakes or something later

Knock yourself out. I at least have tried both approaches multiple times.

So you already know which is better, you choose the Maryland way because of your wife. I get it.
