So you already know which is better, you choose the Maryland way because of your wife. I get it.

No, having had crabs and shrimp prepared both ways, I prefer the steamed version. I didn't choose the steamed version because of my wife, I was introduced to the steamed version because of my wife, and also via friends of their's who make their living as watermen on the Chesapeake.

But you've only had them boiled right? And therefore you know you like boiled better. Ok.

It's all good.

Got it?

Steam is heat. Heat=no flavor. I've had steamed food.

Boiled in seasoned water =flavor.

I don't need to waste time and crabs, steaming crabs.

I've them both ways. I prefer boiled. One thing about steamed is they not as juicy and the seasoning doesn't really get into the crab. I do like steamed shrimp, especially Royal Reds.

I’ve read that reason you’d stream is that crab meat tastes amazing as it is so you don’t want it to taste like you’re eating a mouthful of old bay. Maybe that’s fine with crayfish but crayfish is not the same as crab.

FWIW my girlfriend is from Maryland and she boils them, but water only.

Is that why most dunk steamed crab meat in drawn butter?

So you’re equating the subtle salty sweetness of butter to covering the meat in old bay? Ok

I'm not sure how you'd come to that conclusion based on what I posted...so no.

Read my quoted text, then read my message. Did I mention Old Bay anywhere?

I will copy and paste the text for you:

You said "crab meat tastes amazing as it is." I asked if that is true, then why do most dunk steamed crab (and other steamed seafood) meat in butter if it tastes good as is? There would be no need for butter if it were good enough.

Ice them before you drop them in the pot.

I was always told to ice them while you are out crabbin then by the time you get home and set up, they will be ready.

I recently moved to SWLA and am looking forward to natures bounty very soon!
