Hokkaido Scallop Crudo is amazing.

I always get the soup 1-1-1 which is really good and you try three small cups of soup. I went the other day and only thing i didn't like was the shrimp and Tasso henican appetizer.

Turtle soup is an obvious starter, and the boudin stuffed quail is always a crowd pleaser. See what the specials are, that’s where some of the best dishes will be.

Do you think they cooked it wrong or is it something you just don’t like?
That was always one of my favorite dishes.

Maybe it was cooked wrong. I feel like I've had it before. But this time i didn't enjoy it at all i wouldn't get it again.
Presentation was great but flavor was off. As usual my favorite thing there is often the first bread course.

Whatever Gulf fish special they have will be very good. Bread pudding souffle for dessert. Ask to sit upstairs in the Garden Room.

The food was quite nice. Had scallops, cheese tray, turtle soup, stuffed quail, carrot cake cobbler.
A small japanese fellow was seated next to us. He had just flown in. Specifically for a long weekend of eating. With the exception of cheese, we ordered the exact same meal
We had similar sentiments concerning the food. The scallops were perfect. The cheese tray was..underwhelming. The blue cheese was outstanding, the pecan biscotti as well.
The stuffed quail was stuffed with "boudin".
The quail itself, and the choucroute it was atop, was perfect. The boudin...wasn't boudin. There was an off earthy flavor to it that took away from the quail. After many many small bites I realized what it needed... Pickle and pepper. And the reason it needed it was someone had replaced/combined the boudin with white bean jambalaya. The earthiness: beans. Watching the little japanese guy, he took almost the same process I did with the quail. It was perfect, and then an unwanted punch in the face of...bean.
He even went so far as to spritz his with lemon
Wife had the filet (she always gets a filet...) It was very good. She also had the bread pudding soufflé. To call the sauce whiskey sauce isn't fair :lol. There was certainly whiskey, and rum, and almost certainly cognac as well. Perfect.
I took the cobbler to go. At 7 am, cold, it was still top ten best sweet things I've ever had.
For the experience, worth it. But whomever involved white beans in my quail should be shot.

Last time I was at commanders I got a spinach salad with fried clusters of sweet oatmeal on top. I thought “what the frick is going on back there?” It was a holiday group dinner set menu thing. But sometimes I think the kitchen at commanders needs to head the advice of coco Chanel, “before you leave your house, look in the mirror, and take one thing off”
