They refuse to serve you alcohol if you have a Vertical ID even if it clearly states you are 21 or older. Is this legal? If so what is the point of having such a rule?

I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Because it's easier than teaching the employees to actually read the ID.

I'm not saying it's a good policy, just providing a reason they may be using it.

They haven't refused me before and I still have a vertical ID
Maybe they just thought it was a fake. Should've just shown them additional identification to prove it really was you.

Also, FatCow has gone downhill bigtime in the past 5 years. Only thing worth it now are the fries. Shakes are good but expensive.

In my youth, I attended a party that was thrown by a law firm, several representatives and senators were there. I was introduced to one of them, and decided this was the time to convince a career politician why I should be able to drink at 20 years old if I wanted to. I laid out my argument as best I could. He looked at me, and with barely a thought said “son, I’m 46 years old. As long as they don’t make the drinking age 47, I don’t care.” Then he walked away.

back in the mid 2000s LA went to the ID being printed in portrait rather then landscape for people under 21 to prevent fake IDs.

In Ohio, vertical IDs expire when you turn 21 to avoid this problem.

Is yours expired?

In LA, it expires 6 years after it's issued.
So that can put you at 22/23 years old before renewal is needed.

Our expertise roughly that time period as well, accept when your turn 21. It always expires then.

You got caught trying to use a fake ID. It’s OK man, they didn’t tell the police, just go to Reggie’s and you’ll have more success

No I was there when they denied a patron because he had a vertical ID! I'm 48!

If it wasn’t you, why do you care enough to start a post about it? Weird.

They did that to me when I was 22 or so, but had no problem with my friend with a horizontal ID buying a beer for me, so I'm not sure what the point of not selling to me was.

Lol! Not a likely story, a true story. The point of the thread was to find out why they have that policy in place.
