A new location is now open in Lafayette and I'm thinking about going. What is its allure? I see there's an all you can eat option along with a la carte. I'm apprehensive because the most recent newer sushi joint I tried was Sakaya, and man that was horrible. It's no wonder that the only two cars in the parking lot are the two people who work there.

Anyhow, I've never been to the BR location so I thought I'd canvas an opinion here. I've done a TD search and there seems to be mixed reviews. Folks seem to either love it or hate it.

If you want to eat a lot of above average, but not great, sushi for 18ish bucks at lunch time it's worth it.

I love sushi and have a huge appetite. That place fills me up for a quarter of the cost at most places. It's not the best overall, but it is the best bang for your buck by far.

If you're someone who is a regular sushi eater and eats a lot of it, Masa is great. Their sushi is definitely not bad.

If you're someone who eats sushi only rarely and goes to a place like Umami and spends a lot of $ getting unique items that other places don't serve, Masa isn't going to fill that.

Lunch option is worth it, dinner not so much. I find I can get better quality sushi for the same price as the dinner option.

That being said, Masa is better than average sushi and a solid place to at least try. Ton of variety and all executed well.

For $50+tip, my fiance and I can get two drinks, gyoza, miso, 40 slices of sashimi, a couple of specialty rolls, and some tempora cheesecake. It's easily the best value of any restaurant I've been to. It's not the best sushi in BR (my vote is Umami for that), but it is 100% above average.

And be surrounded by people who typically visit buffets. Went once about a year ago and doubt I'll ever go back.

Personally, I love it. The sushi is actually pretty damn good, and if you're a glutton like me, it's definitely worth the price.

I didn't go with the all you can eat, but it was clean and the food was good. My only knock is that I asked for some rice and it was $3.

I’ve been to places with lesser quality sushi and paid over $60 when it was all said and done.

The selection won’t blow you away with off the wall rolls and there is better quality stuff out there, but it’s definitely worth the price if you can put down a lot of sushi.

Either the food is a good value or it isn't. You're not above sitting in the same dining space as "people who go to buffets" whatever the hell that means.

What a moron!

Last time I went the place was a packed mess with people letting their kids run around the restaurant and plenty of people who looked like they just stepped out of a WalMart. Am I above sitting with people like that? No...but I choose to go to places where I won’t dine with people like that.

And the food, while okay for the price, wasn’t that great due to how busy they were. Cold food was warm and the hot food was room temperature.

Maybe lunch is a better experience, but I head to Yama every time I want sushi.

I've eaten at Sushi Masa in BR dozens of times and it's legit for the price ($15 lunch). Don't even waste your money or time with Wasabi in LAF ($25 lunch or dinner). I ate there two weeks ago and the sushi was worse than what is served on Chinese Food buffets. Slow service, kitchen area was blaring LOUD rap music, and I got served the wrong food. Around 8:45 pm, I was given my receipt and told I could no longer order food since the chef had already picked up all the sushi on display at the bar. You're better off buying sushi made at Rouse's.

I will eat at SM in Laffy real soon, and share my opinion.
If it's anything like the BR location, it will put Wasabi out of business.
